JWR announce 2021 signing.
JWR Honda Racing has finally named a rider for their assault on the 2021 FIM Motocross World Championship. Miro Sihvonen, a name that will be familiar to hardcore Grand Prix fans, will lead the team. Official communication is below. It’s currently unknown if JWR will add a second 450F rider, but they had just one rider this year.
Press Release |
JWR Racing is proud to announce the rider line-up for 2021. The first rider to announce is Miro Sihoven. Miro will pilot the Honda machine in the 2021 MXGP series. Miro lives in Finland and is one of the biggest talents in Scandinavia at the moment – his road to success will be supervised by former racer Jussi Vehvilainen who he has been training with for years know.
The talented Miro can be one of the surprises during 2021 and will never stop fighting for the positions in MXGP. The plan for 2021 is to gain experience and go for points in the MXGP series. Miro will also compete in the Dutch and the Finnish championships, and some rounds of the Swedish championship during the year. He’s in for a lot of racing on his new Honda. We are building a young and hungry team for the future and want to work with speed and in Miro we see speed.
Miro Sihoven: “I’m really happy to get the opportunity to race for JWR racing on the Honda CRF450R. I have never ridden a Honda before this but after the first test ride I was so impressed and want to go racing right away and to get the opportunity to be in this team huge. I am really looking forward to start working with the complete JWR Honda Racing team. I know I will be working with very good people that love the sport. I cannot wait to get going!”
Johan Westermark [JWR Honda Racing Team Owner]: “We are happy to have Miro on the team. We were talking about him last year already, so he was on the short list of riders that we wanted on the team. He is talented, works hard and gives it his best. He showed very good speed in EMX before and if you have been a series leader you have it, and we want to work with speed. He never gives up when he is on the track and that is something that we respect a lot.”
Ashkan Aghili [24MX Marketing Manager]: “We are super proud and happy to extend our collaboration with JWR Racing. Our collaboration with JWR Racing has been important at several levels. First and the most important part is keep supporting the sport and the community, and second to have JWR Racing as part of our R&D process to keep developing the best possible products for out customers.”
Tonny Govers [Team Manager]: “We hope we can make another step with Miro in the premier MXGP class, and help Miro fighting for points in the new MXGP class and we know that it will be hard. We will help him and give him everything he need to succeed. I would also like to say thank you to our loyal sponsors who will support us again in 2021 and make things possible for the team and our riders!”
Patrik Erlandsson [Marketing Co-Ordinator]:Â “This rider is a good fit for the team! Now we can start the season. To be part of the Honda family again is perfect for all of us. We will focus a lot of social-media presence and activities to support him during the championship’s series. Look for Miro in the new JWRTV episode a groundbreaking new media exposure that JWR will launch during 2021.”

Once again, our resident stats guru, Paul Pearcy, provides a breakdown of the MX2 class going into Intu Xanadu. Famed more for its access to a shopping mall and McDonald’s than actual passing, the MX2 contenders will be looking to make their mark. Last year, Simon Laengenfelder reigned supreme and was unstoppable on Sunday, with no rider able to match his pace. If you were a betting man, who would be your winner?
