Martin Barr was struggling to finalise plans for the upcoming domestic season in Great Britain, as the support that he received from KTM to run his own BRT squad over the past twelve months was not available for the new term. Barr ended up getting creative earlier this month and joined forces with Matt Smith of the MSR Honda team (best known for introducing Dylan Walsh to the MX1 class this season). The BRT effort will head to Honda, as a results of this, which was revealed in the statement below.
“Very happy to announce my 2021 plans, with a change of machinery riding the all new CR450R. BRT are very happy to join forces with Matt Smith from MSR for the coming season! Myself and Matt have always had a very good relationship and we were both kinda left in the same position after the 2020 race season had finished, so it made sense to join up and put something together! British-based company Delkevic will be coming on board as title sponsor and we are really excited to team up with them. Our main focus will be MX1 in the British and MX Nationals championships, as well as a few MXGP [rounds] along the way! Jak Henderson will again be aboard and contesting the Amateur MX2 series and the Scottish championship on the CRF250R. We are still working hard behind the scenes and will have more announcements very soon.”
Barr does not actually get the credit that he deserves for finishing second in the premier-class standings in the Michelin MX Nationals this season, an incredible effort in what was his first season under his own banner. The fact that Barr has confirmed his plans effectively finalises the silly season puzzle in Great Britain. Very few questions remain at this point.
