Luke Norris, OctX MNE Kawasaki Race Report – British Masters – Round 2

After having 2 weeks off from racing, I was ready to get out of the track and race.
Foxhills is one of my favourite tracks and I always look forward to racing there. The track was perfect
in the morning and I managed to set down the 3rd fastest lap in qualifying, which gave me a good
gate pick for the races. I felt confident and ready to race coming into the first moto.
Race 1
I got a good jump out the gate but half way down the straight I got squeezed out and ended up just
inside the top 15. I knew I had a lot of work to do being so far back on the start. I managed to make a
few passes and get up to 10th place. I began to get frustrated and started to tighten up, not riding
like I know I can. With about 2 laps to go I made a small mistake in a corner and dropped back to
11th. I ended up finishing in 11th, a very bad race and not where I know I can be. We made a few
small changes to the bike for the second race and I knew I had to get the start.
Race 2
Coming off the gate in the second race, we had a small problem with the clutch and I was left right at
the back. I managed to cut underneath a lot of riders going round the first corner and found myself
just outside the top 10. The first few laps I made a few passes and got up to 8th. The rider in front of
me pulled a small gap and I set my sights on closing him down. With about 10 minutes to go I had
caught right up to the back of him, but a small mistake in a corner made me lose all my time that I
had just made up. Another rider in front of me had some mechanical problems and I moved up to
7
th. My fitness felt really good I just made it difficult on myself getting bad starts.
Overall
Fortunately I did enough to finish 6th overall and I’m now lying 3rd in the championship which was a
bonus. Not the weekend I was hoping for but I learnt a lot and I’m looking forward to the first
European 250 Championship race this weekend in Portugal.
