LaCapelle: Paturel in

Benoit Paturel has been extremely quiet in recent weeks. Following the debacle with BOS, he entered the shadows and has not emerged with any firms plans to race in the upcoming FIM Motocross World Championship. Encouraging news was received earlier today, however, as it seems that he has entered the LaCapelle Marival pre-season international that will run tomorrow.

Paturel will race a Honda in the premier division, with help from Steven Frossard. This is a privateer effort, as far as we can tell, but the choice to pick red machinery is rather intriguing. Paturel rode a Yamaha in recent years, then piloted both a Kawasaki and a KTM in the off-season. Perhaps the decision was linked to the fact that there is a fill-in slot at Team HRC that he could potentially fill? That is simply speculation at this stage, as HRC have claimed that they have not yet decided who will pilot the vacant machine.

The fact that Paturel is clearly betting on himself is positive in itself, as most questioned his mentality after splitting from BOS. The reason for that split was that he did not gel with the machinery, despite the fact that he never tested the full race bike. BOS later signed Evgeny Bobryshev as a replacement, much to the delight of Grand Prix fans, but it still remains to be seen what Paturel will do when the new season begins.
