winter ?oods and injured hisrightthumb and le? wrist. WhileDavid con?nued and rode the
?rstspecialtestin severe pain and half ofthe second ?me check, he wasle? with no op?on

David Knight:
What can Isay except how disappointed I am, not only formyself, butformy teamhelping
and suppor?ngme. A?ersuch a brilliant week ofriding and training in the area, IfeltI was
riding be?erthan I have formany years and honestly had a podiumin sight. To be so happy
and con?dent going into a race hastaken a long long ?me to come back a?er 2 years of hard
knocks, butIfeltlast week it had returned. To be riding along in second gear behind the others
at about 5mph in dust and hi?ng a big hole thatI just didn’tseemakesit evenmore
disappoin?ng.
I knew straight away I’d done something bad tomy thumb. I con?nued to the ?rst ?med test,
rode around it as bestI could and didn’t do a bad ?me considering the pain. Irefuelled atthe
service and con?nued hoping it would se?le down but a?er another 15minsriding I knew it
wasn’t possible to con?nue. Ireturned to the paddock very disappointed, probably themost
disappointed and upsetI have ever been as we have been working so so hard to improve
myself andmy set up and we have de?nitelymade a big step forward, unfortunately we didn’t
get a chance to show it.
My hand waslike a balloon so a?erspeaking withmy physio and doctor, we decided to getto
Manchester and see a specialist asthistype ofinjury can be very serious. Today (Monday)my
thumb feelsmuch be?er asI’ve been icing it asmuch as possible, and I have had X?rays, MRI
scans and an injec?on,thanksto MikeHayton who isthe best hand surgeon in the country.
The X?rays were clear and I’mawai?ng MRIresults now. I’mcon?dent with what Mike has
done and found today and hopefully I willrace Portugalthis coming weekend formyself and
my teamof guys and sponsors who have worked their arses o? forme,so 100% ?t or not, I’ll
domy best asI know I have to pace and equipmentto get on that podium.
I’ll domy bestthis weekend to get a result and look forward to being 100% ?t and ?ghtforthe
win in the coming rounds.
Cheers,
David
