2011 was a great season for the South Midland Centre ACU Adult motocross championships, or the SMC as its known. Before the season was even underway a record number of riders had signed on to the permanent number scheme to register for the nine round series. Kicking off with NMCC at Badby in March, this was quickly followed by a visit to Toddington with L&DMCC. Other tracks visited during the year were Silverstone, Market Harborough and Milton Park. The final two rounds took place some seven months later in October, at Toddington first with L&DMCC and then finally at the Long Buckby National track with NMCC.
Dale Raynor won overall victory in the premier Expert Class for the first time, with second place going to former champion Mark Boswell. David Frankland took the final podium position after a close points battle with Joe Wyse. Trevor Edwards won the Junior class on his way to Expert status, from Ricky Scotney and Darren Flitney. Once again the Over 40 Class went to Tony Leishman after dominating most of the races during the season. Fraser Law took second after a close battle with Richard Wright. The Over 50 class had a new winner in the shape of Sean Bennett who was never far from the front. Last year’s winner Andrew Brightman had to settle for second with Reg Willis just taking third from Nick Bragg.
All trophies and prize money from the series will be awarded at L&DMCC’s Toddington meeting on March 4th.
