New Signing: Jed Beaton

Despite trying to secure a ride in MXGP for the 2023 season, Jed Beaton has officially confirmed he’s heading back home to race under the Honda Racing Australia awning.

Having spent the last six years racing in Europe across EMX250, MX2 and MXGP, the likeable Aussie made the tough call to return home. With talks not progressing as he would’ve liked for a ride in 2023, Beaton understandably opted to return Down Under, where he’ll race in the Australian ProMX MX1 Championship with one of the premier teams in the paddock.

“So I ended up coming home. I was speaking to a few teams over there (in Europe) and just waiting for a deal. Obviously at the end of the year the budgets and stuff get sorted. So yeah I was waiting for a bit of an extra budget over there to see what we could do. At the end of the day I was just waiting and waiting. I kind of made a decision myself. I wanted to really know what I was doing so I decided to make the decision to come home and race.” he explained to Honda Racing Australia.

“Next year is just to get back to full health and feel good. And obviously to feel good on the bike and be competitive over here. My main goal would be to go out and win races and be solid in the championship. The main goal is that, but first is just to get back into the swing of things back home obviously having been away for six years.”

Showing he had the speed and skills in MX2 over the course of 60 GPs in the class, most notably during his spell with Rockstar Energy Husqvarna, where his one moto win and eight overall podiums underlined his quality.

The fact he placed fourth and fifth in the MX2 standings in the 2020 and 2021 crusades respectively further demonstrated what a force to be reckoned with he is.

Making the step up to MXGP in 2022 with F&H Kawasaki after ageing out of MX2, the talented Tasmanian hit the ground running in the premier class by going 5-7 for sixth overall in the opener at Matterley Basin in what was an exceptional 450 debut.

That would sadly be as good as it got for him, though, as a nasty shoulder injury at the second round in Mantova completely derailed his season.

Forced to sit out a few rounds after initially attempting to carry on, upon his return to action, he valiantly battled through the pain to record some admirable results on his way to ending the season with nine top fifteen overall finishes. While it must be said, he did produce many fast times in free practice and qualifying, he ultimately struggled to translate his pace into the races due to the obvious discomfort he was feeling during the gruelling motos.

“It’s been a tough and struggling year to say the least, I don’t really have too much to say about it as it’s done now and I can just move forward. I’m sure this year will make me a better person and athlete overall in the future,” he stated.

“I just want to say a huge thank you to every single person at F&H Kawasaki Racing Team, they all play a part in us going racing week in, week out. They were all behind me in the good and bad times, and I’ll be forever thankful for that! Even though it wasn’t a good year on the bike it was still awesome to be a part of the team this year. Thanks for having me.”

Excited to embark on the next chapter of his career, all the signs are positive that once he’s back fully fit and adapted to life with his new team that he’ll be right up there challenging for the title in the competitive MX1 category.
