Arenacross contender Steven Clarke flies out to the USA today as he begins his preparations for the 2014 tour.
“I’m going to America to the Millsaps Training Facility in Georgia to do some savage training to get ready,” says the 23-year-old from Rugeley in the Midlands. “The weather should be good so I’ll be able to put in some solid bike time as well as gym training.
“I definitely fancy my chances – I want to win every race I show up to. I consider myself a serious contender. It’s going to be a stacked field with some very fast riders but I’m excited and I can’t wait to get our there and throw down some laps.”
Steven, who’s had some impressive results on the American Supercross tour including a Main Event fifth place finish, came into the 2013 series tipped to do well but his championship challenge was over before it even started.
“I came out ready as I could ever be after some good training in Australia and America and in the first practice at the first round I made a small mistake and dislocated my shoulder and that was me out for the full championship. So for 2014 I’m determined to make amends.
“It’s going to be a long seven rounds and it’s going to go down to the wire.”
The seven-round 2014 Arenacross series kicks off with a double-header at the Odyssey Arena, Belfast, on January 17/18 before travelling to the LG Arena, Birmingham (January 25), the Echo Arena, Liverpool (February 2), the Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle (February 9) and the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield (February 15). The series signs off at London’s Wembley Arena on March 1.
