“Do you know when the new MXGP game is going to come out, if at all?” asked @JMaude_MX4_ on Instagram.
This is an interesting question, because you would think something like that would be delayed by the whole COVID-19 situation. I have reached out to Milestone but have not had a reply yet. Based on what happened a year ago, when the format changed a little, then one would presume an MXGP 2020 title would be set to drop at the end of August. Milestone were gathering information on bikes and gear at the second round of the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship. The set-up in the image below is how they document things like logo placement on jerseys.
If they have got all of that information, then one would believe they can crack on and start working towards the release. Milestone are typically still shooting those images at rounds four and five of the series though, and if that is the case this time then they need to wait until July at the earliest. Surely that would make the August release impossible? There must be other issues that those on the outside would not even think about too. I would be pleasantly surprised if MXGP 2020 is released in August anyway. – @_LewisPhillips
“Are we going to have an MXGP season at all and, if yes, then what happens to the ACU British Championship?” asked Lee Williams on Facebook.
I honestly think that we will have a 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship. I really do. July may be a bit of a stretch, which hurts me to say, and August could even be tough. I think that September should be fine though and then a good string of races could be run across those three months. Maybe some weekends in December could be used too and then things can finish up before the end of 2020? That could happen. The weather will soon become the biggest issue, but that is nothing compared to the current mess.
What will happen to the ACU British Championship? Well, clashing with Grands Prix does not appear to be an option with so many riders and teams linked to the world stage. Losing Conrad Mewse, Bas Vaessen and Josh Gilbert would effectively rip all of the star power out of the MX2 division. I imagine a reduced schedule is going to be put in place and, hey, even if it is just four races then it is not the end of the world. The Dutch Masters run like that each year and that is the best domestic series in Europe. – @_LewisPhillips
“Do you think the season should take priority over the 2020 Motocross of Nations?” asked MastersMX2013 on Twitter.
Oh, for sure. It has to. The teams and riders will obviously look at it like that as well – that is no different to normal though. Could that last weekend in September be valuable to the Grand Prix series? It could be, as either a weekend off or an opportunity to hold a round in good weather conditions, but then losing out on one week is not going to be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. The one thing that I do wonder about is whether it would be difficult for gear companies and others to get custom stuff done this year, seeing as they will have to deal with the demands of a regular season at the same time. – @_LewisPhillips
“Will we ever see the sport go back to how it was in the 80s and 90s, where you do not buy rides?” asked DStar2One on Instagram.
Does this happen at the world level? Sure, but it is not really a thing on top-tier squads. It is understandable that taking on a paid rider would help a satellite squad run too. This is obviously more common at a domestic level but that will never change. Anyway, those guys who pay for a deal may be more needed than ever to keep the smaller teams running once this global pandemic moves to one side. Who knows what the situation is going to be then! To sum up, I do not feel like that issue is out of control at the moment. The cream always rises to the top, or whatever the saying is. – @_LewisPhillips

//PEARCY Stats Preview MXGP Intu Xanadu-Arroyomolinos
Once again, our resident stats guru, Paul Pearcy, provides a breakdown of the MX2 class going into Intu Xanadu. Famed more for its access to a shopping mall and McDonald’s than actual passing, the MX2 contenders will be looking to make their mark. Last year, Simon Laengenfelder reigned supreme and was unstoppable on Sunday, with no rider able to match his pace. If you were a betting man, who would be your winner?
