MXGP World Championship
Injury List: MXGP of Germany
An abundance of updates.
A lot has gone on in the time that has passed since the Grand Prix of Latvia, so more riders have stumbled onto the sidelines. Just scroll down to view updates on the various different riders.
In for the MXGP of Germany.
Michele Cervellin: Michele Cervellin, of the Honda HRC team, has been attempting to overcome a hand injury since the Grand Prix of Trentino. ‘747’ is beginning to get back to his best now, thanks in part to another weekend off, so should begin to push for a position in the top ten again.
Arnaud Tonus: Onlookers feared the worst when Arnaud Tonus crashed hard at the Grand Prix of Latvia. Tonus escaped without any serious injuries, however, and will be on the starting line this weekend. It is worth noting that his thumb is reportedly giving him some trouble though.
Tim Gajser: A vicious fall at the Grand Prix of Latvia threatened to force Tim Gajser to withdraw from the eighth round, but he will be racing. ‘243’ is still extremely sore, admittedly, but has assured fans that he will give it his all this weekend.
Vsevolod Brylyakov: Vsevolod Brylyakov is reportedly going to attempt to race again at the MXGP of Germany. His shoulder is far from one hundred percent, however, so it remains to be seen how that is going to go.
Stephen Rubini: Stephen Rubini has been missing since the Grand Prix of Europe with an ankle injury, but will return to racing this weekend. Seeing as there is no EMX250 round, which is the series that he is now focussed on, he’ll tackle the MX2 class for the fourth time this season.
Out of the MXGP of Germany.
Conrad Mewse: A minor ankle injury has forced Conrad Mewse onto the sidelines. Mewse landed heavily off a jump in practice on Tuesday, so broke a small bone. ‘426’ expects to be back for the Grand Prix of France.
Shaun Simpson: Shaun Simpson rarely misses races, hence why this is so noteworthy. A broken middle metacarpal in his hand, which was sustained in Latvia, will force him to watch from the sidelines at the next three rounds, but there is a chance that he could return at the Grand Prix of Lombardia-Italy.
Calvin Vlaanderen: The highs and lows of this sport! Calvin Vlaanderen claimed his first podium finish at the Grand Prix of Latvia, but then broke his thumb just days later. There is currently no timeline on his recovery.
Tommy Searle: Tommy Searle is nearing a return to competition, but is going to wait just a little longer. Searle has been back on the bike for some time now, but it sounds as though he’ll wait until the Grand Prix of Lombardia-Italy to jump back into the MXGP division.
Adam Sterry: Adam Sterry was en route to a season-best finish at the Grand Prix of Europe. A costly error left him with a torn ACL, however, which will cause him to miss the rest of the season. Morgan Lesiardo has been drafted in as his replacement on the Monster Energy KRT team.
Kevin Strijbos: Kevin Strijbos attempted to push through the pain of an injured elbow at the Grand Prix of Europe. It was not to be, however, and he was forced to withdraw with a considerable amount of pain. If everything goes well, he should be able to start riding again in three to four weeks.
Jaap Corneth: Jaap Corneth, the second rider on the 24MX Honda team, fractured his middle finger at the second round of the ADAC MX Masters. The Grand Prix of Lombardia-Italy is the earliest that he could return.
Jake Nicholls: After such a consistent run to start the season, Jake Nicholls was dealt some poor luck at the Grand Prix of Trentino. ‘45’ dislocated his hip without even crashing, believe it or not, so will now be sidelined for the foreseeable.
Iker Larranaga Olano: “Motocross continues to put me to the test,” Iker Larranaga Olano wrote on social media after fracturing his fibula on the first weekend in April. The Spaniard returned to racing in his homeland last weekend and actually won, but his status for this weekend is not yet clear.
Davy Pootjes: “Feels like the man above us is just testing me,” said Davy Pootjes following his latest setback at the Grand Prix of Patagonia-Argentina. The HSF Logistics KTM rider injured his shoulder and was instructed to rest it for two weeks. A return to the doctor was needed, following that, and it was then confirmed that he had to undergo surgery. Pootjes is not close to a return yet.
Chihiro Notsuka: A vicious fall in Argentina left Chihiro Notsuka with a fractured back and dislocated hip. His C6 and C7 were plated shortly after the incident, but he will not get back on a bike for six months at least.

//PEARCY Stats Preview MXGP Intu Xanadu-Arroyomolinos
Once again, our resident stats guru, Paul Pearcy, provides a breakdown of the MX2 class going into Intu Xanadu. Famed more for its access to a shopping mall and McDonald’s than actual passing, the MX2 contenders will be looking to make their mark. Last year, Simon Laengenfelder reigned supreme and was unstoppable on Sunday, with no rider able to match his pace. If you were a betting man, who would be your winner?
