|The twelfth round of the MX World Championship was raced today on the sand track of Hyvinkää. ICE1Racing team was cheered as home favorite and Rui Gonçalves gave his best for the fight. Gonçalves finished the weekend strong seventh with moto finishes eighth and seventh. The ICE1Racing rider Xavier Boog was forced to stand by the motos due to knee swelling from the crash in the qualification race yesterday. Team owner Kimi Räikkönenenjoyed the team success at site.|
|The twelfth round of the MX World Championship was raced today on the soft sand track of Hyvinkää which demanded strength from its’ riders. ICE1Racing rider Xavier Boog faced it in yesterday’s qualifying race as he crashed and sprained his MCL.|
“I’m feeling much better already. Yet the knee has a lot of swelling and I can’t put my weight on it, so racing is unfortunately impossible and I have to stand by”, commented Boog as the race day started.
The ICE1Racing rider Rui Gonçalves was left to defend the team colors alone due to Boog’s injury.
“Rui put together a great fight and rode to his level today”, cheered team manager Antti Pyrhönen.
“I’m satisfied with the weekend, solid top ten performance. My starts were good and I was able to find my rhythm well in both motos. Also the fact that I haven’t been able to train much after my surgery and yet I could fight so well, gave me a lot of self confidence”, commented Gonçalves after the race.
“I want to thank my team ICE1Racing for this good weekend. I appreciate the support I receive from everyone in the team and it makes me perform better”, thanked Gonçalves his team for the support.
Antonio Cairoli ITA (KTM) won the first moto, Clement Desalle BEL (Suzuki) was second and Ken de DyckerBEL (KTM) was third. Gonçalves finished eighth. Cairoli won also the second moto, Kevin Strijbos BEL (Suzuki) was second and Desalle third. Gonçalves finished second moto seventh. Cairoli won the GP classification, Desalle was second and Strijbos was third, Gonçalves was strong seventh. Gonçalves remained his ninth position on the overall classification with 230 points, Boog currently ranked fourteenth with 173 points.
The team owner Kimi Räikkönen was also at Hyvinkää supporting his team.
“Of course it’s unfortunate that Xavier couldn’t start today and we naturally wish him a speedy recovery, so that his knee allows him to fight strong during the rest of the season. Today Rui did a good job with it as he had one of his best races this season. It was great to see my team strong in the starts”, commenter Räikkönen.
As the Finnish GP was raced on the home track of ICE1Racing team manager Antti Pyrhönen, this made the team ICE1Racing somewhat a home favorite among with the Finnish riders.
“It was great to race in Finland, feeling of home crowd almost”, commented Portuguese rider Rui Gonçalvesthe atmosphere.
“Hyvinkää put together a great event. The track was very well prepared and also the rest of the venue was very good. The Finnish motocross fans made the weekend very special for our team and the organizer definitely got their reward today along with the great crowd”, thanked Pyrhönen the home town organizers.
