|The oversea GP in Beto Carrero hosted the third event with super final this season. First moto was very difficult for ICE1Racing riderRui Gonçalves who had a bad start and finished eighteenth. Yet his strong start in the super final kept the rhythm solid and he was able to ride very good race finishing seventh.|
|Beto Carrero hosted the seventh round of FIM XM World Championship in perfect conditions. The expected rain stayed away and the red soil track kept the grip on the race day.|
The first moto was very difficult for the ICE1Racing rider Rui Gonçalves. Gonçalves, who was under the weather, had a bad start and an unfortunate crash, which kept him fighting for the GP points outside the top ten.
Antonio Cairoli ITA (KTM) holeshot the first moto and kept the lead all the way through the finish line,Maximilian Nagl GER (Honda) was second and Clement Desalle BEL (Suzuki) was third. Gonçalves finished eighteenth.
The oversea race was one of three events with the super final combining the MX1 and MX2 riders in the second moto. Top ten riders from the classification per class had a secure position in the super final, which was completed by yet another ten riders of each class. Gonçalves lined up fifteenth to the start in the super final.
“The start was great and I was able to ride on my own level. I’m definitely satisfied on the super final. Naturally I am a bit disappointed on my start in the first moto, but very happy about the holeshot in the super final”, commented Rui Gonçalves after the race.
Gonçalves had a very solid race in the super final. He was able to keep his good rhythm all through the race and although he had to give a few positions after the first round, yet he was able to control the traffic behind him and finished strong seventh.
“The difference between today’s races in Rui’s riding was like day and night. The great start boosted his riding and he was able to race very relaxed”, congratulated the team manager Antti Pyrhönen.
Antonio Cairoli ITA (KTM) won the super final, Kevin Strijbos BEL (Suzuki) was second and Clement Desalle BEL (Suzuki) was third.
Cairoli leads the classification. Gonçalves kept his eight position with 134 points and Xavier Boog is currently fifteenth with 90 points after standing by two races.
Next GP will be raced in Ernee, France on June 9th. Xavier Boog is expected to return to the circuit in his home race.
