Friday Notes: GP of Sweden

  • Round eleven of the FIM Motocross World Championship will take place at Uddevalla, in Sweden, this weekend; a circuit which has been a staple on the calendar for many years. Remember, they radically changed the circuit before the GP last year – it runs the other way to what it did in 2013 and the years before that.
  • Expect things to get dry and slick by the end of the weekend, as it’s another hot one! Temperatures have soared over the last couple of days, and are expected to be thirty degrees on Saturday and Sunday – making it one of the hotter rounds this year.
  • Uddevalla is typically where some pieces of the silly season and Motocross of Nations puzzles start to fall into place, as we enter the second half and some begin looking to the future. No announcements are scheduled for this weekend, though, but expect certain deals to start moving along. Of course if anything does happen, you’ll find it here.
  • Quite a few riders will be returning from injury, including Tommy Searle, Nathan Watson and Jake Nicholls. We put together a comprehensive list of injury updates earlier today, so find out who’s in and who’s out by reading this.
  • The EMX250 class will be taking place this weekend, and will be just as stacked as usual. Eighty-eight riders fill the entry list, so there will again be a Group A and Group B in practice tomorrow morning.
  • The reigning EMX250 champion, Steven Clarke, will not be racing this weekend due to a lack of funds. Clarke has his Apico Husqvarna’s stolen earlier this year and obviously spent a fair bit of money replacing them. He’ll miss this weekend and also the Latvian GP in one week.
  • That group is particularly interesting, as just nine points separate the top four (consisting of Nick Kouwenberg, Damon Graulus, Adam Sterry and Maxime Desprey) in the championship standings. Remember, this is where Sterry claimed his first moto win last year.
  • In more support class news, the EMX300 guys will be racing here for their fourth round of six. Yentel Martens has a comfortable thirty-three point lead over Marco Maddii in the standings, with Matt Moffat a further seventeen points behind.
  • One of the pre-season title favourites, Lewis Gregory, will not be racing this weekend after sustaining a back injury at the Blaxhall round of the Maxxis British Championship. He currently sits fourth in the championship, and will obviously be leapfrogged by a few guys.
  • Shift held the European launch of their 2016 gear this evening, followed by the ‘Shift Ride Club’. We’ll have a full report on that later…
