MXoN Picks: Team Italy

Another Motocross of Nations announcement! There has been some intrigue surrounding Team Italy in recent weeks, as Antonio Cairoli has sustained a knee injury and Michele Cervellin has withdrawn from the upcoming rounds of the FIM Motocross World Championship with what sounds like a virus. Cairoli even confirmed exclusively to MX Vice that he was unsure if he would be able to compete.

Now, however, the FMI have announced that Antonio Cairoli (MXGP), Michele Cervellin (MX2) and Alessandro Lupino (Open) will represent Team Italy at RedBud in October. It is actually one of the strongest teams that Italy have had, as both Cervellin and Lupino have come into their own this year in their respective classes. Cervellin had a season-best finish of third in a moto at the Grand Prix of Russia and Lupino acquired a brace of eighths in the premier class in Asia.

With Italy now confirmed, it seems as though the only major team to still be announced is Team Spain. Jorge Prado is obviously going to be on there, but they have faced some crushing injuries in recent weeks.
