Latest: Shaun Simpson
Hand injury hinders Shaun Simpson.
June 03 (19:52) |
Shaun Simpson has now had x-rays on his injured hand and the results are not great, but it could have been so much worse. A fractured metacarpal in his right hand will sideline him in the coming weeks, as he confirmed in a social-media statement earlier today.
“Blaxhall chestnut fencing: 1. My fifth metacarpal: 0. Luckily it’s not displaced and won’t require surgery, but it does mean I’ll be out of action for the next couple of GPs.”
It seems likely that Shaun Simpson will miss the upcoming events in Russia, Latvia and Germany. One would presume that returning for the fifth round of the 2019 Maxxis British Championship, Desertmartin on June 30, would be a priority though, seeing as he only trails Tommy Searle by five points currently.

A horrific first-turn crash at the fourth round of the 2019 Maxxis British Championship left a handful of stars nursing injuries, like RFX KTM’s Shaun Simpson. Simpson hurt his hand in the fall but soldiered on in an attempt to gain valuable championship points and keep his title hopes alive. What is the extent of the damage that he sustained? Simpson released the following statement.
“After today’s big start crash I feel lucky to have been able to ride in at least some capacity. I could only manage 7-4 in the motos, meaning I’ve lost my championship lead but I’m still only five points behind. It was damage limitation today and fearing I may have fractured my right hand I just wanted to ride through the pain and scrape as many points as I could and keep my championship hopes alive. Big speedy recovery to @RyanHoughton119. Updates to follow tomorrow after an x-ray check up.”
The Grand Prix of Russia, round eight of the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship, is the next appointment for Shaun Simpson, although it remains to be seen whether or not he will be able to compete or not. #24 currently sits twelfth in the premier class at an international level.

The MX2 class is full of young and motivated riders and Lucas and Sacha Coenen will join them for Lierop. These talented twins regularly impressed in the MX2 World Championship last year and Lucas won his first Grand Prix in Indonesia at the age of sixteen.
A fifth place was his share in the final standings and he certainly wants to improve on that this year. Sacha also regularly showed that he has the speed to compete at the front. Highlights were his second place in the qualifying heat in Finland and top five finishes in the Czech Republic and Sweden.
In the deep sand of Lierop, the Coenen brothers will compete against riders like Kay de Wolf, Cas Valk, Hakon Osterhagen, Max Werner, Scott Smulders, Bradley Mesters, Hakon Fredriksen, Oriol Oliver and others.
Also in the 500 class we get fireworks with the participation of Jeffrey Herlings, Jago Geerts, Pauls Jonass, Calvin Vlaanderen, Brent van Doninck and others.
The weather forecast looks good, so the Dutch MX Season Opener in Lierop has all the ingredients to see a great day of racing.
