Weekly Wrap Up: #18

Although it may seem very dull at the moment, things are about to heat up in the world of motocross, as a number of European Supercross races are about to kick off in the coming weeks. When you factor in the ongoing team rumours, it really has not been as quiet as you may have first thought.

Signed, Sealed and Delivered:

Nathan Parker has had a pretty good year with the Talon Kawasaki team. Although he was sidelined with a knee injury earlier in the year, when he returned, Parker posted some solid results. In fact, he finished the season off with a top five finish in the final Maxxis British Championship moto at Farleigh Castle. In recent weeks, Nez has been linked with Buildbase Honda, so it is not too surprising to see that he has now signed with the team for 2014. It is certainly a good move for him, as he will essentially be on one of (if not) the strongest teams in the pits. Hopefully he will be able to stay injury-free next year, as he has the potential to finish on the podium.

The Pendrich Kawasaki team have had a successful year, and their efforts have now been rewarded. In 2014, Pendrich will be the official Kawasaki MX2 team. Undoubtedly, this is going to help the team achieve the type of results that they expect. Honestly, the team’s number one rider, Bryan Mackenzie, is looking like one of the favourites for the title next year. Interestingly, the team has added Jordan Booker to the squad for next year, as well – he will be riding alongside Bryan in MX2.

Although Davi Millsaps and Ken Roczen have been linked to the RCH Suzuki team recently, they have just re-signed Josh Hill, which will surely put an end to all of the rumours. Josh will have a slightly different deal next year, as he will be receiving support from factory Suzuki, and he will be racing for the team throughout the whole Monster Energy AMA Supercross, and Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series. Obviously, this is great news for Hill, as he has seemingly clawed his way back to where he once was.

Stuart Edmonds and the CCR team have been under the radar recently, as they have been out of action since the Foxhills round of the Maxxis British Championship, when Stuart broke his wrist. However, they have been thrown back into the spotlight now, as their 2014 plans have been revealed. The team will be aboard Suzukis, with official support from Suzuki UK, which will ensure their machinery is competitive. Jordan Dunne, an Irish youngster, will join the team and compete in the rookie class at the Red Bull Pro Nationals, and in the MX2 class at home in Ireland.

It was one of the worst kept secrets out there, but we can now officially reveal that Shaun Simpson has signed for the HM Plant KTM UK team. Shaun enjoyed his best year with KTM UK back in 2009, which will surely boost his confidence heading into next year. Of course, the fact that he has signed with a British team means that he will return to the Maxxis British Championship full-time after a years hiatus, which is great news for British MX. Currently, Shaun’s teammate has not been announced.

Roczen Cancels European Trip:

Ken Roczen was one of (if not) the biggest stars attending the Bercy, and Genova Supercross’ this winter. But, we received a KTM press release stating that he will not be present at these events due to personal reasons. If I were to take a guess, I would say that this decision has something to do with his new training regime with Aldon Baker. Perhaps Aldon wants him to stay behind, and focus on Anaheim 1? It is the smart thing to do. Whatever the “personal reasons” are, hopefully they are not negative, and will not hinder his 2014 preparation. Ken had this to say about his situation:

I am sorry to my fans attending Paris-Bercy and Genova Supercross. It’s unfortunate that I have had to cancel at this last minute but, I look forward to the future of racing at both of these races.”

2014 BYN Dates Confirmed:

It is that time of year where promoters begin to announce their dates for the 2014 season; earlier this week, we received this information regarding the 2014 British Youth Nationals:

12th/13th April – FatCat Moto Parc
10th/11th May – Milton Malsor MX Park
14th/15th June – Culham MX Park
12th/13th July – Brookthorpe
30th/31st August – Leuchars

You can register your interest in the series at the BYN stand at the Dirt Bike Show this weekend – all of the 2013 champions will receive their trophies on the main stage on Sunday, also.

Coming Up:

Genova Supercross, Italy:

The Genova Supercross has become a staple on the European calendar, as the event takes place each year, and plays host to a number of top names from around the world. Although Ken Roczen will no longer be present this weekend, the Muscle Milk Honda duo of Justin Barcia and Trey Canard will be on-track, as well as Wil Hahn, which will surely be entertaining. Unfortunately, it does not look like the race will be live on TV this year, so it may be tricky to follow the coverage live on Friday night.

The Dirt Bike Show, Stoneleigh Park:

Well, here we are again! The 2013 edition of the Dirt Bike Show has already started, and will continue on throughout the weekend. The event has been around for quite a while now, and is always a great place to see some exciting new stuff ahead of the 2014 season. Of course, you can also pick up everything that you need for another year of racing, so it is certainly worth the journey. The postcode for the Dirt Bike Show (if you are using a SatNav) is: CV8 2LG.
