After local Motocross rider James Dodd’s 2012 season was ruined through injury, constant shoulder problems forced him to have an operation in early July, cutting his season short. The 23 year old from Winscombe returned to race action last weekend for the newly formed TwoNineTwo Honda Team at the opening round of the 2013 Premier MX series, held at Whiteway Barton in Devon.
A tentative start saw James only qualify in 18th place but he was showing no signs of the injuries from last year and his confidence was beginning to build again. A good start in the opening race of the day saw James in and around the edge of the top 10 throughout but he was unfortunate to lose 2 places on the final lap after getting stuck behind a lapped rider, to cross the finish line in 12th. Buoyed on by his opening race result, James got a similar start in race 2 but soon forced his way up into 8th, he held this position for the majority of the race before taking 7th place with a few laps to go but he was now under heavy pressure from two riders behind and he again lost 2 places in the closing stages, to finish in 9th. In the 3rd and final race of the day, James started just outside of the top 10 but he slipped back into 14th position, he was riding strong though and battled hard to pick up 2 places in the final few laps to finish this one in 12th.
All in all in was a good competitive return to action after 8 months away from racing and pleasing debut for the TwoNineTwo Honda Team, James and the Team head to Preston this coming weekend for the British Masters MX and would like to thank his sponsors St Blazey Mx, Merge Decals, FLi Distribution/Oneal, Illumin Distribution/EKS Goggles, CGH Imports/Pro Circuit, AT Motocross, County Flat Roofing, Burfield Creative, Winscombe Fish Bar, Chris Brown and AdeMX for their help in 2013.
