News: French Elite in 2020

French Elite series sets plan for 2020.

There seems to be a considerable amount of positive news flooding in from Europe at the moment, as the promoters of the French Elite series have just confirmed their plans to run a three-round championship in August and September. The events can be run with up to 5000 people in attendance, including those in the industry and fans, so there is the possibility of these being successful for all involved.

Press Release

Motocross will be back to action in August in France, with three rounds of the French Elite series scheduled in August and September. It will be soon again possible to organise races in France with a maximum of 5000 people on site, a number which includes riders, staff, organisers and public.

For some clubs that was enough to ask the federation for a round of the French Elite series, and the first one was Castelnau de Levis in Southern France near Albi. This club, home of many GPs in the past, was supposed to organise the opening round of the Elite in the middle of March, but was forced to cancel at the last moment. For several weeks, this race was supposed to be the only round of the series. Other organisers also showed interest in running a round of the most prestigious series in France though.

Alain Bosseboeuf (Club President): “Everything was ready when the local representative of the government said no on Saturday morning. Since this moment we have been pushing to find a solution, and finally the FFM confirmed us for August 15/16.”

Stephane Dasse, owner of the Bud Racing team, is the owner of the Bud Racing Training Camp, a sandy training facility located in Magescq (not far from the team base in Hossegor) and after some discussions with the federation he will host the opening round of the series on August 01/02. Last but not least, the club of Rauville la Place (in Normandy) confirmed that they were ready to host the third and last round on September 19/20.

Stephane Dasse (Bud Racing): “When we saw that Castelnau organised mid august, we ask them if it was possible to move the date, as there is a GP in Sweden on the calendar the same weekend. They could not change the date, and for us it was a pity as the French series is important for our sponsors. After talking with some other team owners and the FFM we decided to organise a round on our home track earlier in August.”

The MX2 class is full of young and motivated riders and Lucas and Sacha Coenen will join them for Lierop. These talented twins regularly impressed in the MX2 World Championship last year and Lucas won his first Grand Prix in Indonesia at the age of sixteen.

A fifth place was his share in the final standings and he certainly wants to improve on that this year. Sacha also regularly showed that he has the speed to compete at the front. Highlights were his second place in the qualifying heat in Finland and top five finishes in the Czech Republic and Sweden.

In the deep sand of Lierop, the Coenen brothers will compete against riders like Kay de Wolf, Cas Valk, Hakon Osterhagen, Max Werner, Scott Smulders, Bradley Mesters, Hakon Fredriksen, Oriol Oliver and others.

Also in the 500 class we get fireworks with the participation of Jeffrey Herlings, Jago Geerts, Pauls Jonass, Calvin Vlaanderen, Brent van Doninck and others.

The weather forecast looks good, so the Dutch MX Season Opener in Lierop has all the ingredients to see a great day of racing.
