Cancelled: 2020 MEC

2020 Monster Energy Cup cancelled.

Published

It is really not surprising in the slightest, but Feld Entertainment just announced that the 2020 Monster Energy Cup will not be run. The event was initially scheduled for October 10, at a new venue in Los Angeles, but the 2020 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series will conclude in California on that same date. Add in the fact that many major sports will be scrapping for venues at that time of year, it would simply not be possible. An official statement from Feld’s social media channels is below.

“The @MonsterEnergy Cup scheduled for October 10 will not be feasible this year, due to other leagues starting their seasons and the difficulty of securing an appropriate location. Supercross Futures National AMA Championship will also be cancelled.”

It remains to be seen if any off-season events will actually be run this year. It has already been announced that the race in Geneva, Switzerland, is not going to happen, and the same goes for the ADAC SX Cup in Germany. The Paris SX is still scheduled to go ahead as planned, however.

Quotes: Bobby Hewitt

Riders respond to Bobby Hewitt exiting.

It had been rumoured for quite a while, but Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing finally confirmed that they have parted ways with Bobby Hewitt. Hewitt managed the squad over in the United States, and had done long before it became the Husqvarna factory effort. The team actually went through four manufacturers whilst under Hewitt (Kawasaki, Suzuki, KTM and Husqvarna) – becoming a factory effort was a testament to his resilience whilst steering a privateer effort to race wins in the premier class in 2013 Monster Energy Supercross.

After more than five years of working together, it was announced today that Husqvarna Motorsports, Inc. and HRH Racing, Inc. have mutually agreed to conclude their business relationship for the remainder of the 2020 race season and beyond.

As a result of this new agreement, HRH Racing, Inc. owner, Bobby Hewitt, will no longer serve as team manager of the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Team. Husqvarna Motorsports, Inc. would like to thank Bobby Hewitt for his commitment to the race team over the past five years and wish him the best in his future endeavours.

The short and sweet statement from Husqvarna Motorsports was merely confirmation of what had been rumours long before 2020 Monster Energy Supercross concluded in Utah. Although Hewitt was not in Utah – he had already been released of his duties – the team still kept quiet on his whereabouts, in an attempt to avoid an avalanche of questions whilst tackling the task at hand. That obviously worked out quite well as Zach Osborne, Jason Anderson and Dean Wilson swept the podium at the finale.

Riders were more than just employees on Bobby Hewitt’s squad. Hewitt never turned his back on someone, even when at rock bottom, and was rewarded in the long run. Who remembers when Anderson faced horrific struggles in his rookie year as a professional, so Hewitt simply told him to sit out and return when he felt ready to contend at the highest level. A premier-class title in 2018 Monster Energy Supercross was the result of that move, and Anderson acknowledged such dedication on social media.

Just wanted to say thanks to @BBHewitt for everything he has ever done for me. I would never have had a career like I have had if it wasn’t for him. I can honestly say he wasn’t my boss he was my family. I’m sad he won’t be in our semi but I know it’s not the last time I’ll see him at the races. Thanks for the most incredible 10 years BOB! We accomplished some amazing things.”

Zach Osborne, who transformed into a two-time 250SX East champion whilst with Bobby Hewitt, also released the following statement on what a joy it was to work beneath Hewitt.

I’ve had an awesome six years working with @BBHewitt and I wouldn’t be where I am today without him and his influence on my career. He kept me on at times when he wasn’t supposed to and truly believed in me. We will all miss ‘Bob McGrath’ and his certainty of the line choices that we always (never) used. Thanks for everything Bob.

Doctor Explains: Ken Roczen

A video on what #94 has been through.

Published

There are multiple reasons for sharing this video, which was published by an actual doctor in the United States. The obvious one is that those horrific arm injuries that Ken Roczen suffered in his first two terms as a HRC pilot are broken down in a manner that is quite shocking. Roczen has explained both injuries, of course, but not in the depth that Dr. Chris Raynor does below. Raynor is focussed solely on every single step of the process that surgeons went through from the start to the very end of this video, and it is eye opening to say the least. It is also a reminder of just how incredible it is that Roczen is back to being a race winner. Another reason for sharing this is that it is great to see the sport receive some recognition on a mainstream platform. That’s always great!
