Injuries: MXGP of Europe

A collection of updates.

Published

on

Injuries continue to hurt the depth of the Grand Prix field, but the premier class will still receive a much-needed boost this weekend. A factory star will return to the fold and make for interesting debate. However, on the other hand, two more riders have joined the wounded on the sidelines.

In for the MXGP of Europe

Tim Gajser: Tim Gajser may have only fractured his jaw a month ago, but he is already poised to make his return to the FIM Motocross World Championship. Gajser has ridden three times since the injury, so is not exactly prepared, but feels that he can salvage some good points on Sunday.

Jeremy Seewer: Jeremy Seewer hit his head quite hard and was actually questionable for this event. Seewer rode on Wednesday, then again yesterday, and is fine though, so he is ready to contest his second Grand Prix aboard a YZ450F.

Out for the MXGP of Europe

Michele Cervellin: Michele Cervellin actually injured his knee at the Grand Prix of Patagonia-Argentina, not that you would know it. Cervellin still raced the opening round of the Italian Championship at Pietramurata and secured fourth but, unsurprisingly, that did not help the knee. Although he will rest it this weekend, he is expected to return in Spain next weekend.

Brian Hsu: Brian Hsu was set to enter the second round of the FIM Motocross World Championship, but dislocated his shoulder whilst training in Italy earlier this week. The shoulder was put back into place immediately, which is positive, but it is rather painful at the moment. It remains to be seen if he will be able to contest the third round.

Jordi Tixier: An unfortunate run continues. Jordi Tixier, a former world champion, has spent a majority of his time on the sidelines in recent years and has only actually completed twenty-one rounds aboard a 450F. Tixier discovered that he had a damaged tendon in his hand following the Hawkstone International and went under the knife, but has now targeted the Grand Prix of Trentino as the race that he wants to return at.

Brian Bogers: Brian Bogers shattered his foot whilst testing a CRF250R in November and has only just started riding again. A recovery time still has not been specified, despite that, but a further evaluation is expected to take place at the end of the month. It is likely that he will return at a race like Agueda.

Arnaud Tonus: Arnaud Tonus has had a difficult couple of months, with a handful of knocks and injuries. The latest, a dislocated shoulder that was sustained at LaCapelle Marival, was the most devastating, as it required surgery and will rule him of the first portion of the current campaign. There is still no timeline on his recovery.

Valentin Guillod: Valentin Guillod needed to make a splash this season, in order to remind pundits just how capable he is aboard the bigger bike, but his hopes of doing that have been dashed by a pre-season injury. Guillod broke his leg in Spain and will miss a majority of the season.

Anton Gole: One could argue that Anton Gole was a breakthrough star a year ago, hence why he landed a deal with the JK Racing Yamaha outfit. Gole will not be present at the first couple of rounds, however, as he sustained a broken scaphoid during the winter months. Those specific injuries can be quite time consuming.

Once again, our resident stats guru, Paul Pearcy, provides a breakdown of the MX2 class going into Intu Xanadu. Famed more for its access to a shopping mall and McDonald’s than actual passing, the MX2 contenders will be looking to make their mark. Last year, Simon Laengenfelder reigned supreme and was unstoppable on Sunday, with no rider able to match his pace. If you were a betting man, who would be your winner?
