Ask MX Vice: Volume #1
Your questions answered!
After attending seventeen events thus far this year, we have acquired answers to a lot of questions that you may have. That’s why we thought that we would open things up with this new feature! If you have something on your mind and want to be featured here, email [email protected] or get in contact via our various social media channels.
Question from @Row21_Andy on Twitter: What do you think is going to happened to the factory Kawasaki team in MX2 next season? They don’t seem to have a frontrunner at the moment.
Great question! It is no secret that those on the Monster Energy KRT MX2 team have struggled thus far, but it is certainly surprising just how bad their results have been. How many times have the team been inside of the top ten in a moto this season? Just six times. Potentially they could have done it twenty-eight times with Adam Sterry, Petar Petrov, Stephen Rubini or Morgan Lesiardo. Obviously there have been injuries and other issues, but one would presume that a team of this level would have something to celebrate through ten rounds.
The squad are undoubtedly looking to the future, as they will lose Petar Petrov at the end of the season. ‘152’ will hit the age limit and consequently have to vacate his 250F. One could argue that was why they signed an EMX250 rider, Morgan Lesiardo, as the replacement for Adam Sterry, but is he really going to emerge as a contender for podiums next year? There’s obviously a chance.
The Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki team will almost certainly perform well next season, as Vsevolod Brylyakov and Darian Sanayei should return and battle for wins. All the stars and those who are expected to contend in MX2 next year are already under contract, so the Monster Energy KRT MX2 team must hope that their current riders continue to develop. – @_LewisPhillips
Question from @CRDorey on Twitter: Paul Malin always says that Jeffrey Herlings and Tony Cairoli are teammates. Are they or do they just ride for the same brand on different teams?
The fact that is that they both fall under the same Red Bull KTM Factory Racing umbrella. That means they are teammates, right? Although they reside in different awnings, the two are connected. If you are looking for proof of some kind, just peruse the listed of officially approved teams from Youthstream. Jeffrey Herlings, Antonio Cairoli and Glenn Coldenhoff are all listed beneath the same heading. – @_LewisPhillips
Question from @CRDorey on Twitter: How many times do you think Valentin Guillod has phoned Roger Harvey over the last three weeks.
This question came in prior to the MXGP of Russia, where Guillod suffered a hand injury that’ll force him onto the sidelines for the next month. “Unfortunately for the minute they don’t help me,” Guillod told us exclusively at the MXGP of Latvia. “I keep working really hard to show that I am a good rider.” It seems that there would not have been much to gain from calling a lot. I honestly do not think that a lack of factory machinery is the problem for Guillod though, so I’m not sure that being beneath the HRC awning would make much difference. – @_LewisPhillips
Question from @AlanStephen3 on Twitter: Zach Osborne to Red Bull KTM on a 450F next season?
Zach Osborne will be on the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team next season. It initially looked like he was going to have to move onto the 450F, but a rule change will allow him to defend his 250SX title. That’ll allow Dean Wilson to stick with the squad for another season also, just as Steve Matthes reported earlier this month. – @_LewisPhillips

//PEARCY Stats Preview MXGP Intu Xanadu-Arroyomolinos
Once again, our resident stats guru, Paul Pearcy, provides a breakdown of the MX2 class going into Intu Xanadu. Famed more for its access to a shopping mall and McDonald’s than actual passing, the MX2 contenders will be looking to make their mark. Last year, Simon Laengenfelder reigned supreme and was unstoppable on Sunday, with no rider able to match his pace. If you were a betting man, who would be your winner?
