TC third, Nunny sixth at Arenacross opener

SR75 World Team powered by Molson made a solid start to the E22 Arenacross series in a supercharged first round at The O2 in London. Solid and professional rides in the final saw Tom Church holeshot and battle for the win, then settle for a solid third place and Carl Nunn come through from the back of the pack after being taken out to secure a hard-fought 6th place…

The nerves were evident with both TC and CN at the beginning of the day but when things started rolling out on track the guys settled quickly and got into the competitive groove. For current number 1 TC it was important to hit the ground running at round one and he did just that with strong qualifying times and solid, error-free laps on his SR75 KTM 350.

Carl worked on his pace during the training and qualifying sessions on his steady build up for the night ‘show’ and with both race bikes working perfectly and both riders happy with the superb track it was a great team atmosphere heading into the evening show in front of 7,500 screaming race fans!

The final went off with a massive first lap of carnage. TC fired the SR75 KTM to another holeshot and swapped places with Adam Chatfield and Nev Bradshaw through the first rhythm sections. Carl ran a strong fourth for the first half-lap until he was taken out by flying bikes in the tunnel section. Carl remounted in last place and started his charge through the pack to sixth. Tom was controlling his own race in the top three and with Chatfield and Bradshaw running the same strong pace a pass would be difficult. TC waited for a mistake from either rider but it didn’t come.

These three guys up front were riding with class and they finished with Chatfield taking the win from Bradshaw and TC. Both riders looked strong all day and it was fantastic to have TC take a podium and Carl show his strength in body and mind to work through the pack.

Team Manager Geoff Walker: “The riders and team worked great today in our first event as a unit. The results and progressive form of the two guys through the day and night show was great and the bikes ran great and to win the number one team award showed the consistency of both our pro riders. Thanks to Dean and Paul for their hard work during the day to keep the riders and bikes in running order and of course a massive thanks to all our team partners.”

Tom Church: “As far as the team and my result is concerned I am really happy. It has been a year since I last raced indoors so I want to build my pace and racing during the four rounds. Adam and Nev rode good as well as everyone else in the rather wild final. I am looking forward to the rest of the series. Thanks to the team for their hard work and of course thanks to all the sponsors and the organisers who all work to make this happen.”

Carl Nunn: “My expectations for the event were limited as I haven’t raced indoors for a couple of years. I am happy with my progress through the races and it is a shame I got taken down early in the race. These things happen and I will look forward to the racing next week in Belfast. I want to thank SR75 World Team powered by Molson for the opportunity to race for them. I am having a blast and enjoying every second of the experience.”
