There’s no doubt that we have some serious talent in youth motocross here in the UK. However there has always been a doubt if we’ll ever see that the full potential of that talent. Well now there’s more hope that maybe we will. The Red Bull Academy has come along and it could make the difference. Of course time will tell, but it’s a very positive step in the right direction.
Red Bull along with the MC Federation, Events 22 and their Red Bull Pro Nationals and Elite Youth Cup series have put a programme together where our top youth MX talent have the opportunity to learn from professional Red Bull MX riders and Britain’s most successful motocross rider and head instructor at the Red Bull Academy – 4 time World champion Dave Thorpe – in a series of academy days where the lads can learn tips from improving their cornering speed to being more media savvy.
Intrigued to find out more MX Vice took a trip to this week’s academy day at Cusses Gorse, Salisbury where the selected riders from the Red Bull Elite Youth Cup big wheeled class were being educated by Thorpe. It was a good day and great to see the lads really get into it and take on board what Thorpey had to say. Fair play to all that have put this academy together. We think it’s great and if we even get just one rider come through that is battling for a world championship in years to come who’ll then inspire the next generation it would be a huge success, more than it already is.
To paint the picture and explain the concept a little more we grabbed Dave for a quick chat and here’s what he had to say…[soundcloud id=’54810811′]
