Dan managed to ride to victory at Langrish to take the MXY2 Championship even after dislocating his knuckles at Hawkstone on the Saturday. MX Vice would personally like to congratulate Dan on a great season and providing us with some exciting racing. Good luck for the rest of the year dan and 2013.
Here are Dans recent Race Reports:
Hawkstone – Redbull Pro-Nationals
Looking forward to a great weekend; saw us on our way to the awesome Hawkestone Motor Park for the sixth round of the Redbull Pro-Nationals.
Arriving at the track we were told that a severe weather warning had been advised for this area for the Saturday, not good.
Rookies were first out for qualifying on Saturday; was so excited could not wait to get out on the track, with only 8 points behind Millward for the lead I had everything to go for.
Started qualifying; but disaster struck, took off over one of the table tops, on landing the front wheel peeled off the rim, caused by a puncture, and I ended up impaled on the chestnut fencing, smacking the fence with my right hand and dislocating 2 knuckles. I finished qualifying on my spare bike, but only managed an 18th. I was absolutely gutted.
I got my hand checked out before Moto 1, they did not think I had broken anything, with an ice pack on my hand, I decided to race Moto 1. I was nervous; the pain in my hand was unbearable.
I had a reasonable start about 8th, but the pain was unbearable, I could not use the front brake and felt every bump through the bars, I eventually finished 12th.
With more ice packs on my hand and freeze spray I had made the decision to try and ride Moto 2 to try and score some points. I gated about 6th and held this position for the majority of the race, but eventually finished 9th.
Moto 3, gated about 6th pushing hard, but I eventually finished 9th, still scoring points, but now I could see the championship slipping away.
I spent the evening working on getting the swelling down, hot and cold treatment, decided on an early night to maintain a focused mind.
Sunday morning, hand was a little stiff, after icing, decided to go out for Moto 4, after a false start, had a better start gated 6th, raced hard trying to ignore the pain in my hand, Dad had moved the brake for me so I could use it, in the motos yesterday I was unable to use the front brake, I came over the finish in 8th.
Moto 5, had a terrible start gated 15th, worst start of the weekend, but got totally focused in race mould and rode hard, picking off riders in front to finish 6th my best result of the weekend.
My result for the weekend was 8th overall; and a little upset about injuring myself.
I would like to thank all my sponsors for their continued support.
Langrish – MXY2 Championship
The last round of the MXY2 Championship saw us take the long drive from Hawkestone Park, to Langrish, Petersfield, 3¼ hours later we arrived; I spent the journey working on getting the swelling down from my dislocated knuckles sustained at the 6th Round of the Redbull.
I was very nervous knowing I only had a 29 point lead in the Championship, with my hand playing on my mind; I had to focus on my riding. Went to the gate for qualifying, the track was fast with big drop downs, this playing havoc on my hand, but had a good qualifying and qualified 6th.
Out for a sighting lap, back to re-peg, and to the gate for Moto 1, got a good jump, but got squeezed out in the first turn, having to work hard I came over the finish in 7th.
With only now a 22 point lead, I had everything to work for, I went to the gate for Moto 2, got a great start, came round the first corner in 2nd, made a mistake and went back to 6th, was holding my ground, but the front washed and I went down, getting back on my bike, I pushed hard to finish 10th, securing enough points to claim the MXY2 Championship Title.
I would like to say a big Thank You, to all the people that have made it possible for me to achieve this Title, Simon from Grittenham Tracks, Nigel from Meredith MX, and Jez from Zook for being my mechanic, and Fusion for my graphics, and all my Sponsors.
