More than two weeks after the event we’re still buzzing from our Weston weekend but far from sitting back and putting our feet up it’s very much full speed ahead for round three of the 2013 Red Bull Pro Nationals at the awesome Culham Park on June 29-30.
The challenging track on the banks of the River Thames will be pimped and prepped to perfection as befits our ‘home’ round when we pay the first of two visits to the Oxfordshire circuit this season.
With its amazing mix of sand and soil the circuit winds its way up, down and around a natural banking that leads down to the riverside and makes for great racing with fantastic spectator viewing.
When we were last there for the final round of the 2012 series it was Estonian Gert Krestinov who came out on top in MX1 from Stuart Edmonds and Nico Aubin who did enough to lift the title for his Buildbase Honda team.
This time around it’s MBO Sport Yamaha’s Kristian Whatley who holds the advantage over the French pairing of Milko Potisek and Aubin. With Potisek a series newcomer and Whatley absent though injury last season it’s the defending champ who has the most recent experience of the track but don’t expect this to work too heavily in his favour.
Last year’s Culham climax in the MX2 division was a tale of three riders with Neville Bradshaw winning the overall – and the title – ahead of Graeme Irwin and Steven Lenoir. This time around it’s the same trio heading the class although there’s been a shuffle in the running order and it’s Evotech Stevens KTM’s flying Frenchman Lenoir who leads from the South African reigning champ and super-quick Irishman Irwin.
The three pro races over the weekend will again be augmented by the rising stars of the Red Bull Elite Youth Cup and the die-hard heroes of the 2-Stroke Championship and there will be Freestyle Motocross from the UK’s top FMX athletes on the Sunday.
We’ll also be opening up our Kidzone on the Sunday where younger visitors can meet their favourite TV characters Peppa Pig and George, Bob the Builder and Fireman Sam and burn off some energy on our bouncy castles, bungee trampolines and in the Zorb Balls.
With MX Try-Out Experiences for kids across both days it promises to be a family-orientated weekend to remember.
