Monster Energy Supercross

Injury Update: Alex Martin

Comments from those involved.

A lot happened in Detroit, right? It really was an eventful Monster Energy Supercross round. One of the main talking points, however, did not emerge from the night show, as most were eager to discuss the controversial move that Christian Craig made on Alex Martin in practice.

The crash, which sparked interest on social media, caused Martin to go flying over a berm and land on the start straight that ran parallel to the race track. “Unfortunately due to an incident during practice today in Detroit with @_ChristianCraig I will not be racing tonight. Really bums me out, but thankful that my injuries weren’t more severe, and I’ll try my best to be back in time for St Louis next weekend,” Martin wrote on social media right after the incident.

Christian Craig also issued an apologetic statement. “I want to apologize to Alex for what happened in practice,” he wrote. “My intentions are never to make someone crash. I was frustrated that my fastest lap was getting interrupted. He had rolled the whoops on the same lap so I figured he would get out of the way since he was on a slow lap. That doesn’t justify what happened but I am sorry and I have been fined and penalized for my actions on the track.

The penalties that Craig encountered included last gate pick in the main event, despite the fact that he won his heat race. Craig crashed in the first turn, because of that, and rebounded to finish seventh. “Solid heat race win last night but still had last gate pick in the main,” he wrote post-race. “Tried to salvage a good start but got collected in the first turn pile up. Put my head down and pushed to the checkers to end up seventh on the night.

We’ll provide an update on Alex Martin’s condition as soon as that becomes available. There is no word on whether Craig will incur any further penalties.
