LAST ROUND: (Houston)
The first race of the Eastern Regional Championship was a wild one to say the least. One dude even hit the over/under bridge at full speed – it was crazy. For our team it was a matter of getting the season started and for Jeremy Martin, it was mission accomplished. Jeremy has not raced in over a year, so it was good to put all of the recovery and training to use again.

Our expectations and results mirrored each other for the first race back and we are proud of his accomplishments. The speed and the rush of the actual race are hard to replicate in training but Jeremy is the consummate professional and put his veteran skills to work. Keep in mind that his race bike has been on the truck since the beginning of the season due to the way the truck runs. That means this was the first time he has ridden the complete race package since adjustments are made from the start of the season to round five.

The bike has so much power that he had some trouble keeping the front end down and now with that issue identified, they spent the week working on making more adjustments. One thing about Jeremy – he puts in all of the time required to make improvements.

For Preston Kilroy, it was bittersweet. Preston had the opportunity to fill in for Garrett Marchbanks and took full advantage. He advanced directly to the night show for his first time in his career and was looking forward to a great night. He had his first interview with the broadcast crew going into his heat race and that is where it went wrong.

Preston found himself close to a transfer position and headed to the main event when he went over the top of the berm before the whoops. With nothing to slow his progress on the other side, he hit the concrete floor and slid into a concrete wall. It was like sliding on ice as he put his hands up to brace himself. He ended up breaking both of his wrists when he hit the wall and that obviously ended his night and season. They say it is a brutal sport and these guys are tough – which is true, but this one hurt. It was about to be a great story right up until it wasn’t.

ON TO ROUND 2

JEREMY MARTIN: Watching Jeremy beat himself up for his performance in Houston is a clear indication that he will come out firing in Tampa. We have had a lot of racers come through the ClubMX program but none as intense as Jeremy. He got right to work on Monday fixing the things that will make him better for the next race.

On Monday morning I said, “I’m really proud of your performance and race craft in Houston. I could see where you would take opportunities when available and be cautious when necessary”. He smiled and replied: “Nice of you to say, but that wasn’t a good run. I have a lot to work on and I’m going to do better. I called the crew chief and mechanic last night and they’ll be here to get going on trying things that will make me better”. Damn, OK!

The way the schedule runs back to Oakland, we will not have another fill-in rider for Tampa. Garrett is in the process of getting the plate removed from his wrist later this week and then we will decide the best course of action after that. I will keep you posted as we make those decisions.

MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY
All of us here at ClubMX could not do what we love without the brave men and women of our military. Each year, we find a multitude of ways to give back and say thanks. This year, we are dedicating our Tampa graphics kit to the soldiers stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. We are just a little over an hour away from Fort Bragg and there are so many talented military vet riders who are stationed there that visit us often. It is always our goal to provide the best facility possible for anyone who shows up, being able to do that for so many service members is just the icing on the cake!

Fort Bragg is one of the largest military bases in the world covering nearly 251 square miles with a population of around 55,000 soldiers, and is home to the Airborne and Special Operations Forces for the U.S. Army. If you look closely at our graphics, you will see on both sides ‘’FORT BRAGG’’ in bold letters, and on the side number plates the Airborne and Special Operations symbols.

NOTES:
• Military Appreciation has always been important to us. There does not need to be a special event to express our gratitude for the men and women of the armed forces, but my compliments to Feld for allowing us the opportunity to show it off. Our design has special meaning because of the relationship we have with Fort Bragg. These are their colour schemes, logos and design marking the first time the Airborne Special Ops crew will be shown on a bike. Special thanks to Yamaha for allowing us to deviate from our normal colours to honour the military this weekend. Also thanks to SKDA, MUC-OFF, FXR, ACERBIS and the rest of our sponsors for getting on board and making one of the coolest bikes in the paddock.

• I will have Preston’s bike available first thing Friday morning for photos if anyone wants to stop by and have a look. It is really cool and we are proud to present it.
