Broc Tickle Equals Season-Best for RCH Suzuki

Team Suzuki Press Office – July 22.

RCH Racing Suzuki’s Broc Tickle equalled his season-best moto finish result of fifth place in Saturday’s eighth-round Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship race at Washougal in Washington.

The # 20 Ram/ Sycuan Casino/ RCH Racing RM-Z450 rider scored ninth place overall on the day – his fifth top-10 result of the season – with 13th and fifth places respectively.

Said Tickle: “The race start is so important at Washougal. The track is slippery and it gets one-lined. If you don’t break clear early, it makes it really tough to ride from behind. I’ve been working so hard on race starts and today, during the second moto, it showed. I rode solid, I put my lines together and rode with confidence.”

Race starts have been the Achilles’ heel for Tickle this season and Saturday’s first moto was no different: Starting 11th, he dropped nine positions on the first lap and sat mid-pack early-on in the 40-rider field. Tickle charged hard over the next four laps to regain six spots but gained one more in the 30 minute, plus two lap timed moto and finished 13th.

Tickle was a man on a mission in Moto 2, overcoming his recent starting gate woes by breaking with the lead pack and never racing outside of the top 10. Choosing the inside line for the start, his charge to the front started early and was seventh after Lap 1 thanks to a commitment to an outside line in Turn 2.

“I went to the inside on the second moto with the gate pick and just went for it,” said Tickle. “I grabbed my gears really good and was somewhere between eighth and 10th. Somewhere in the second corner, everybody was diving inside and I just tried to rip it outside. Sure enough, guys piled-up on the inside and I took the spots. My start was better and that certainly helped.”

Patience and perseverance were additional keys to a strong Moto 2 for Tickle as he powered his Suzuki along the tree-lined and narrow Washington track.

“I got by Josh Grant and Chad Reed and just rode five or so seconds behind Jake Weimer in fourth the whole Moto and hung-it-out the last three or four laps to make sure I got fifth,” he added. “It was a really solid ride. It was tough at the end. The track was
Tough and brutal to ride on. It was a lot different from what we’ve been riding on the last few races. It was a hard and rough ride every lap.”

Despite Tickle’s ninth-place overall finish, the RCH rider dropped one position to ninth in the 450MX Class rider standings but only five points out of seventh.

Ryan Villopoto scored the overall victory, edging-out Ryan Dungey and James Stewart.

The 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship heads to Millville for Round 9 next Saturday afternoon.
