The legendary Hawkstone Park was the scene of Nez Parker’s return to the British Championship since the second round at Lyng.
It was great for the Talon Kawasaki team to return to British Championship racing and a recent delivery from Dunlop helped get the team bikes ready for racing.
Always a tough track it would be a great test to measure the fitness of Nez and see how far we have come regarding the comeback from injury.
Qualifying went well given that Nez only managed one clean lap for 8th, good enough for superpole where he went one better for 7th.
A few changes from suspension guru Mark, from RSS and the Kawasaki KXF 450 beast was dialled in and ready for race one. A bad start in race 1 resulted in Nez having to battle his way through the pack, not an ideal way to start the race. It took a few laps to get into a rhythm but Nez came in strong for an 8th place and just on the back of a pack of riders in front.
Moto 2 was another story, with Nez finally getting a good jump out of the gate and found himself coming around the first turn just outside of the top 10. Second corner was another story, winding the KXF 450 around the outside berm Nez passed 8 people in one corner and pushed hard for the first few laps, to put himself in 3rd! Settling into the race Nez made a little mistake on the takeoff of the bomb hole and went down. After picking himself up Nez crossed the line in 9th place.
A similar story at the start of race 3 with Nez finding himself in 5th after some early passing, but while tagging on to Brad Anderson he stalled the bike in a corner. Unfortunately even though Nez got going and started to charge a red flag cam out stopping the race, putting Nez in 7th overall.
Nez and Talon Kawasaki have moved up to 13th in the table from only 3 rounds this year, a great achievement given the difficult circumstances the team has been through. Next stop is the Redbull Pro Nationals at Hawkstone as Nez will be missing the British Masters after having wisdom teeth removed.
October 7th will see the teams home round at Farleigh Hungerford.
