Things could not have worked out better for Evotech Stevens Honda at the fourth round of the Red Bull Pro Nationals this past weekend. After a cancelled third round, it was clear that things would get just a bit hotter in the Pro Nationals championship, and with dry but windy weather, the track at Duns in the Scottish Borders was just the place to make a statement.
With the full team present, things got off to a great start on Saturday. Jordan Divall gave a preview of the weekend to come by qualifying in fourth, while Joe Bamfield qualified in seventh.
Fourth from start to finish in the first race of the day, Divall then attempted a run for the lead in the second race, only to be beaten back again to end in fourth a second time. With the final race on the day suffering from increasing wind and dust, the youngster found himself hitting the deck early on. After restarting, he worked hard to recover the lost positions, but with time running out, came up short, ending tenth. On Sunday morning, a tough start soon developed into a consistent run in fifth throughout, followed in the second race by another run in fourth for a fifth overall on the weekend.
Bamfield also got off to a good start. A small crash in the first race set him back a few positions, but a quick recovery put him back in seventh place with the timer ticking to zero. The second race turned into a battle with his team mate, resulting in a fifth place for Bamfield. The final race on Saturday also ended with Bamfield in sixth after an attempt for fifth didn’t quite stick. After a sixth place in the first race on Sunday, the weekend looked to be in the bag, but fate had other ideas. A crash in the first lap of the second race of the day left Bamfield dead last, and it took the entire race for him to recover back to twelfth, for a sixth overall on the weekend.
For team star Neville Bradshaw, the weekend could not have gone any better. In the qualifying session, he put in a time that put him on pole for the MX2 class. The first race saw Bradshaw play tag with Red Bull rider Elliott Banks-Browne before taking the lead altogether and holding it to the end. The second race got off to a slightly slower start, but Bradshaw made quick work of his rivals in front of him, taking the lead again for a perfect 1-1 score and the lead in the championship.
Team principal Matt Hutchins declared himself very happy with the weekend’s results, stating: “It’s been a fantastic day for the team! We’ve had all three riders on the podium and also the red plate in the championship for Neville, Jordan’s now moved into fourth place in the Rookies, so yes, a fantastic day.”
Neville Bradshaw (#272): Today was a good day, I was fastest in free practice and then got pole in qualifying. In the first race I got a good start, and me and Elliott had a good race until he crashed, I managed to get away with the win quite far ahead of the others. In the second race I had to come back from real far in the back because I hit a rider in the first turn. Just put my head down and got into the lead and then a steady race, you know, I’m happy with the way I’m riding at the moment and just try to carry this form through the rest of the year now.
Joe Bamfield (#54): The weekend went good, qualifying was top seven which gave me a good gate pick pretty much every time. Struggled with the starts a bit but first race was consistent and was trying to stay on the leaders and got a seventh, next race was fifth which was good. The third race was sixth. The first race today was seventh, but the last race I had a really bad race, crashed on the first lap and had to work my way up from last to 12th which gave me sixth overall, which was quite good.
Jordan Divall (#63): Qualifying I was pole for a little bit but in the last two laps didn’t put a fast enough time in so I dropped down to fourth. In the first race I got a fourth, in the second race another fourth, and in the last race I had to work my way up all the way from the back. Today we had a false start, went down on the start straight and a red flag went out. My bike and my bars were all bent up, so I had to go out for the first race with bars all bent up, but I got a fifth. In the last race I got a good start, and just held my position all race to end in fourth.
