Ask MX Vice: Volume Five
Your questions answered!
After attending twenty events on different continents thus far this year, we have acquired answers to a lot of questions that you may have. That is why we thought that we would open things up in this new feature! If you have something on your mind and want to be featured, email [email protected] or get in contact via our various social media channels.
“Do you think that Evgeny Bobryshev is ever going to be a title contender and also does he have a deal for next year?”
Evgeny Bobryshev is extremely underrated, as he has the ability to finish inside of the top five in all conditions. It is simply remarkable that he has won just a single Grand Prix, with that in mind, but he still has the potential to add more to that number. However, claiming a world title appears to be too much of a stretch at this point in his career. The fact that he finished third in MXGP just two seasons ago shows that he can be competitive though. The contract that he has with HRC expires at the end of this season and there has been no official word on what he has planned for the future. The common consensus is that he will return to HRC and complete his eighth season from beneath the factory awning. – @_LewisPhillips
“Which team do you think will be the biggest underdog at the Motocross of Nations?” asked @MattDog38 on Twitter.
The excitement that surrounds the Motocross of Nations is starting earlier this year! Belgium have been underdogs recently, one may argue, as the hype tends to revolve around the French and American teams. If the Belgian riders stay healthy, then they should be viewed as equal to those other teams and could quite easily claim the win. Do Canada still count as underdogs? Kaven Benoit led the nation to some impressive finishes last year, but they will not be able to rely on him at Matterley Basin. An ankle injury will rule him out, much to the dismay of those across the pond, but Colton Facciotti is a worthy replacement. Do not be surprised to see them in the top ten on October 1st and for many years to come. – @_LewisPhillips
“Any news on the vacant Monster Energy KRT ride in MXGP now that Jordi Tixier has left the team and, the big question about the MXoN, what’s the Saturday night beer tent party going to be like?” asked Stuart Dawes on Facebook.
Jordi Tixier will be vacating his seat at the end of the season and, prior to the Czech Grand Prix, the common consensus was that Benoit Paturel would replace him. A new rumour emerged at the event though, as it now sounds like Julien Lieber is in the running or was at least considered. Lieber has to move up to the premier division, much like Paturel, and has previously commented that he would not do that from beneath his LRT awning. Signing either rider would be a bit of a gamble but, hey, who would have thought that Romain Febvre would blossom like he has? Look for either Paturel or Lieber to sit alongside Clement Desalle in 2018 and beyond. – @_LewisPhillips
“Why is the Motocross of Nations not in Glen Helen this year, as planned?” asked J.R Fernandez on Facebook.
Some fans will undoubtedly label this as old news, but not everyone would have caught the press release in October last year. Press releases tend to dance around various issues, admittedly, but that was not the case with this one. “Despite the quality of the organization, the excellent racing and the massive media coverage the fan attendance was much lower than expected and also much lower than what this event deserves,” it stated. The event will not return to Glen Helen, unfortunately, but will take place in the United States in 2018. The common consensus is that the event will be held at Red Bud, but a crazy rumour recently emerged. – @_LewisPhillips
“Who will be the 450F riders at Suzuki in 2018?” asked Jimmy Baker on Facebook.
Presumably this question is about MXGP? Stefan Everts has already named his riders. Jeremy Seewer will move over to the Suzuki World MXGP awning, which has been the plan for a couple of years now, and Arminas Jasikonis will sit alongside him. This obviously means that Kevin Strijbos is out, but there has been no word on where he will end up just yet. What about in the USA? RCH will shut up shop at the end of the season, much to the dismay of most, but JGR will stick around and run a similar programme. Justin Barcia is expected to move on, but Weston Peick and Phil Nicoletti should return. Chad Reed has been linked to that vacant seat. – @_LewisPhillips

//PEARCY Stats Preview MXGP Intu Xanadu-Arroyomolinos
Once again, our resident stats guru, Paul Pearcy, provides a breakdown of the MX2 class going into Intu Xanadu. Famed more for its access to a shopping mall and McDonald’s than actual passing, the MX2 contenders will be looking to make their mark. Last year, Simon Laengenfelder reigned supreme and was unstoppable on Sunday, with no rider able to match his pace. If you were a betting man, who would be your winner?
