Qualifying: being a local track I got up to speed straight away and felt really comfy on the track. I keyed two good laps in at the start that was good enough for 18th pick. I got held up a little on both laps but I knew I could do better in the races.
Race 1: I got an average start but was clever the first few turns and came round the first lap in 16th. I moved forward the first few laps and felt pretty good. After 5 mins I worked up to 14th when unfortunately I was ruled out of the race with mechanical problems.
Race 2: I really wanted a good result in the race to make it into the super final. Again I got an average start and was just inside the top 20 on the first lap. I got my head down and worked forward. I was riding ok and was loose and got up to 13th. I could see 12th and reeled him in but I didn’t really take the chances I needed to make the pass as I wanted to be in the last race. At the flag I was 13th and 17th overall qualifying for the super final.
Super final: 36th gate pick was what was in order for the last race. It was very hot at this point and the dust was getting bad. I got a dreadful start and for the first 10 mins of the race I literally rode round as I couldn’t see more than a metre in front of me. When we started to spread out and I could see I put some hard work in and managed to pass a good bunch of riders finishing 18th and 16th overall on the day.
Today I felt good on the bike and felt like I should of been top 12 overall. It’s a shame about the DNF but that’s racing. Hopefully keep the ball rolling and push for some top 12s even top 10s towards the end of the year.
