2013 AMCA SUPERCLASS CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW WORDS AND PICS BY MIKE WOOD.
The AMCA MX Championship season blasts off this weekend at Whalley Nab in Lancashire as the Rossendale MXC stage the annual Superclass event. Sunday’s meeting as already attracted a very strong line-up which includes the 2012 AMCA MX1 Championship top three finishers of Lee Payne, Lee Dunham and Clinton Barrs along with the top four in the 2012 AMCA MX2 standings of Jack Cox, Ben Saunders, Paul Neale and local lad Ryan Crowder.
Current Champion is Lee Payne and racing in his home county, the KTM ace is sure to be a big favourite again. However former Superclass King’s Lee Dunham and triple Champion Ben Saunders are sure to be right on the gas and very determined to bring the 2013 crown back down South!!. After his super 9th overall in the Pro MX2 class at the recent British Masters, expect young Jack Cox to also be right in the mix and upholding the honour of the MX2 pilots.
With the main AMCA Championships due to start in just two weeks time at Nympsfield, the Superclass offers riders the chance to push their early season speed and stamina to the max whilst also earning some morale boosting early season glory!!. Switching during the Winter to MX2 machinery, Richard Cannings has already tasted success in 2013 at the recent British Masters opening round so should start the Superclass in confident mood!!.Other riders to look out for could well be the likes of Luke Meredith, Michael Reynolds and Lewis Belfield. Not yet confirmed at the time of going to press, the 2012 AMCA 2-Stroke Champion Adam Harris may also start at Whalley Nab.
With the Superclass just an one meeting title shootout, the three 18 minute plus a lap moto’s on Sunday are sure to be fast, frantic and all-action as the MX1 and MX2 riders rub shoulders.Whilst the Superclass naturally tops the bill there is also a full programme of support racing. The closest postcode for the Lancashire venue is BB6 8DU.
