ACU Release the first 59 riders in MX1 & MX2 British Championship

ACU Events, the Series Promoter, have released around 30 riders in each class who have been seeded directly into the 2013 championship, which still leaves up to ten places to be allocated early in the new year.

This year there is a big swing towards the MX1 class which is ultra competitive and will be the premier class to watch in 2013.
With 2012 Champion Kevin Strijbos no longer with the HM PLant KTM team there will be no number one plate, but Brad Anderson return to contest a full series with a new challenge on the Maxxis Kawasaki by LPE and must be one of the favourites.

An influx of Grand Prix riders into the championship is led by Tanel Leok (Route 77 Energy Honda) who has contested the series in the past, along with Spanish GP winner, Jonathan Barragan (STR KTM), whilst ex World Champion, Steve Ramon heads the Buildbase Honda Racing Team. Their second rider, Nicolas Aubin also moves up into the MX1 class and his end of season form in 2012 suggests that he will be a title contender.

Gert Krestinov (Apico Suzuki) himself a GP winner back in 2008, Mattis Karro on the second STR KTM, making them one of the strongest teams in the paddock and Kristian Whatley are also podium contenders.

Current British Champion Elliot Banks-Browne stays with the HM Plant KTM UK team and will carry the number one plate in the MX2 class. The main challenge to him taking a second title could come from the riders who finished third to sixth last year in the form of Bryan MacKenzie (Pendrich KTM), Graeme Irwin with a new challenge from Heads and Threads Suzuki UK, Neville Bradshaw (Putoline Honda) and Steven Lenoir who has switched to the Evotech Stevens KTM team.

Stephen Sword faces a new challenge back in MX2 for the Dave Thorpe Honda Off Road Centre and Luke Remmer who won the 2012 ACU Two Stroke Championship gets a place on the MJW Kawasaki. Plagued by injury in recent seasons, Ray Rowson is the sole rider in the Hawk Racing KTM team whilst Martin Barr has entered for both MX1 and MX2 classes whilst his future is being decided. He will have to make a final choice ahead of the final start list being produced.

Series Manager, Brian Higgins commented, ” I need to stress that this is the first release of riders and whilst this list will not change with the exception of Martin Barr, we have to look deeply into results before the final 38 start list is produced early in the new year. Of course, there will then be up to seven reserve riders in each group who will automatically move up, even ahead of the first round and these riders will always be given priority if no wildcard riders enter for a particular round, or they will be able to compete in Qualification at each round and the fastest one out of them will fill the first reserve position.

It is expected that the full list will be released by January 6th.
