The anticipation is mounting for the original Vets Race, which takes place at the historic Farleigh Castle circuit on the weekend of September 14th/15th. As the only vet’s event in the UK with sixty riders on the line in each class, the entry is stacked with riders returning to the much-loved event year after year.
Most will need no introduction to Brian Wheeler. The journeyman racer made it to be a Grand Prix rider for KTM GB and, later in his career, a GP mechanic for the mighty RWJ Honda squad. Wheeler is a regular on the vet’s scene both in the UK and internationally. Affectionally known as “Spud” he is one of the most friendly and approachable guys in the pits, always has a smile on his face and is more than happy to take a trip down memory lane (ask him about how he passed JMB), that is until he puts a helmet on, and then it’s all business.
He will be racing a Honda CR 500 in the over 50’s class and will be at the sharp end, that’s for sure.
Wheeler joins a star-studded lineup that includes Tommy Searle, Rob Herring, Mark Jones, and Doug Dubach, to name a few.
It’s sure to be a great weekend filled with fantastic racing and a celebration of motocross from years past.
The gates open at noon on Thursday, September 12th, for riders and weekend campers.
