Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 Team’s Janis Reisulis has finished his impressive rookie MX2 World Championship season with third overall at the final round in Australia. Demonstrating strong speed around the hardpack circuit in Darwin all weekend long, he placed fourth in Race One before leading the second race until a couple of small mistakes saw him drop to third. Teammate and brother Karlis was also in action and he placed ninth overall.
The MXGP of Australia brought the 2026 season to an end with considerably better track conditions in Darwin than at the 2025 edition. The weekend began positively for J. Reisulis who led over half of the Qualifying Race for an extra boost of confidence ahead of the Grand Prix races.
In the opening Grand Prix race, J. Reisulis tangled with a rider just after the start gate, but he was still able to emerge near the front of the field. He held fourth for the entire race and crossed the finish line with a comfortable gap over the riders behind him.
In Race Two, J. Reisulis charged to his third holeshot of the season and led the way until the halfway stage. Unfortunately, a couple of mistakes dropped him to third. However, finishing in this position was enough to secure third overall on the day for his third podium result of the season. In the final standings, the former EMX250 Champion was the best-performing MX2 rookie in 2026, finishing sixth in the championship.
- Reisulis was consistent in Australia with two ninth-place finishes resulting in ninth overall. During the season, the Latvian’s highlights included placing third overall in the Czech Republic, together with four top-five overall results. The Yamaha YZ250FM racer ultimately ended the championship in a career-best seventh.
With the MX2 World Championship now complete, the team returns to Europe. In two weeks’ time, the Reisulis brothers will represent Team Latvia at the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations across the weekend of October 3-4.

“Yeah, it was a really solid day and I’m really happy. I got the holeshot in the second race, which made things a lot easier compared to Race One. I didn’t get such a good start in the first one and I wasn’t feeling too comfortable. I also felt the heat quite a lot, but I still managed to finish fourth. In Race Two, I made a couple of mistakes while leading, but overall, I think it’s really solid to finish the season with third overall and another podium. I’m really happy with that. A huge thanks to the team because without them I couldn’t have done this, and a lot of love to my family for everything they’ve done for me throughout my career and especially this year. Now it’s time for Motocross of Nations in two weeks.”

“It was a difficult final round for me. I was happy in some ways, but I didn’t really feel like myself and I struggled a little mentally. Overall, there were definitely some highlights this season, but I don’t think I was consistent enough. If I could have put together more consistent results across the Grands Prix, I think the season could have been even better. Still, I finished seventh in the championship, and now that the season is over, it’s time to reset and be ready for 2027.”
