Kiara Fontanesi to return to the Bibione Sand Storm

The six-time world champion will once again compete in the Italian round of FIM Sand Races World Championship

Kiara Fontanesi is set to return to the Bibione Sand Storm. The most successful female rider in the history of world motocross is ready to line up once again for the Italian round of the FIM Sand Races World Championship, taking place on October 23, 24 and 25.

Fontanesi has competed in the Bibione Sand Storm since its inaugural edition and was immediately impressed by the beauty of the town, the unique atmosphere of the race and the affection shown to her by the fans. For these reasons, the Sand Storm has become a regular fixture in her calendar.

“I like the race in Bibione because it is an event that involves the whole family – Fontanesi says -. My daughters are happy to come along: besides watching me race, they can have fun on the beach and enjoy all the great things the Sand Storm village has to offer. That’s what makes Bibione different from all the other races. And the same goes for me: racing in this place is really special and I’m genuinely happy to be taking part in the Sand Storm. This year will be a special edition. We will certainly have Massimo Zamparo in our thoughts, and a special memory that will forever bind us to him. I already know it won’t be easy to get there and not find him”.

32 year-old Kiara Fontanesi, from Parma, boasts the longest and most impressive record of achievements of any woman to have competed in motocross. She made her World Championship debut at the age of 15, going on to win the world title six times and record more Grand Prix victories than any other female rider (25). Her record in the Italian Championship is equally impressive, with nine titles and 54 race victories.

And the list is still being written. Fontanesi is currently fighting for every major goal of her season in traditional motocross: in the World Championship, she sits second in the standings, just six points behind the leader, while in the Italian Championship she leads the standings with a perfect points tally.

Once her races on the motocross tracks are over, Kiara will turn her attention to preparing for the Sand Storm, which will require intensive sand endurance training as well as technical work on her bike. In the previous two editions, she went really close to the victory. This year, the goal is to add Bibione to the list of triumphs in a career like no other.
