Carson Mumford’s season has come to an early end. The American suffered a dislocated wrist during the second moto after being taken down by another rider in the opening lap. Mumford will undergo surgery on Friday and then face a long road to recovery.
Mumford announced the news himself on social media. The AEO Powersports KTM Racing rider is understandably frustrated with the way his season has come to an end, but he is already looking ahead to his return.
“This isn’t the message I wanted to post, but it’s the reality now. Another rider took me down in the first lap of the second moto, which resulted in my wrist being dislocated. I’ll have surgery on Friday, and after that, I’ll have a long road to recovery,” Mumford said.
Despite the setback, Mumford can look back on a strong period of racing. The American revealed that he even raced this season without a salary, with his main goal being to prove that he could compete at the highest level again and give his career a new lease on life.
He certainly achieved that goal. In his final six motos before the injury, Mumford finished inside the top five every time and also secured two moto podium finishes.
“I had one goal: to prove that I’m still a top-level rider, with the hope of extending my career. I accomplished that goal this motocross season.”
Mumford thanked AEO Powersports KTM Racing for giving him the opportunity to prove himself once again and also expressed his appreciation for his mechanic, Dillon Stanfield. According to the American, they believed in him completely throughout the entire season.
The positive news is that Mumford also provided immediate clarity about his future. He expects to work with the team again next year and is targeting a return to racing in January 2027.
“I’ve been through this before, and I know I can do it again. I have complete confidence in the people around me and in my team, and I know I’ll come back strong next year. See you in January.”
