Andrea Bonacorsi 9th on his return in the MXGP qualifying race

Lommel, the most challenging track of the season, welcomes the FIM Motocross World Championship riders this weekend for the fourteenth round of the calendar, the MXGP Grand Prix of Flanders. Located in the province of Limburg, Lommel features particularly soft sandy terrain that varies with each lap, presenting ever-changing obstacles to the riders, who face fast corners and spectacular technical sections where finding a good pace is crucial.

The Lommel race marks the return of Andrea Bonacorsi to racing for the Red Bull Ducati Factory MXGP Team, which is based just 15 kilometers from the circuit, after missing the Latvian GP due to injury. Tenth at the end of free practice, the Bergamo native managed to improve his position in the following timed session, posting the ninth-fastest time in the premier class. Due to the after-effects of the Loket crash, Calvin Vlaanderen decided not to compete in the Lommel race to focus on recovery ahead of the Swedish round, which will be held in Uddevalla in two weeks.

After an excellent start to the race, Bonacorsi settled into eighth place during the heat and managed the finale with determination, crossing the finish line in ninth place to complete the first qualifying race after seven rounds and a two-month absence from the starting gate.
