Christian Craig sustained a back injury during the opening moto of the Southwick National. The American crashed heavily and was forced to withdraw from the race.
Craig landed awkwardly after a jump and immediately felt a sharp pain in his back when he tried to get up. Examinations at the hospital revealed that he had fractured the spinous process of his third thoracic vertebra (T3).
Fortunately, surgery will not be required. The injury is expected to heal naturally, allowing Craig to focus entirely on his recovery in the coming weeks.
“Unfortunately, I crashed hard in the first moto at Southwick today. I landed very awkwardly and immediately felt something in my back when I tried to get up. At the hospital, I learned that I fractured the spinous process of my third thoracic vertebra (T3). Thankfully, surgery won’t be necessary, and it should heal on its own. Thank you to everyone who has reached out and checked in on me.”
