This coming Sunday, the Dutch Masters of Motocross moves to the Herikerberg circuit in Markelo. After spectacular races in Heerde and Harfsen, the championship is slowly entering its decisive phase. The gaps in the standings are small, the level is extremely high, and on the technical circuit of Markelo every mistake can have major consequences.
In the 500cc class, the championship currently seems to be turning into a direct battle between Jeffrey Herlings and Romain Febvre. Herlings won the previous races and leads the championship, but Febvre remains close enough to keep the pressure on. However, it is not just about those two names. Riders such as Kay de Wolf, Glenn Coldenhoff, Calvin Vlaanderen, Andrea Bonacorsi and Brent van Doninck could also create surprises at the Herikerberg.
Markelo in particular, where technique and rhythm are just as important as pure speed, often delivers unexpected races.

The 250cc class may well be the most exciting category at the moment. Cas Valk and Karlis Reisulis are tied on points, while Janis Martins Reisulis is only four points behind. Kay Karssemakers is fourth and trails the leaders by just seven points. Roan Tolsma is having a strong season and currently sits in a solid fifth place. In addition, riders such as Jens Walvoort, Noel Zanocz, Dani Heitink, Jarne Bervoets and Dean Gregoire are all eager to join the fight for the podium positions.
In the 125cc class, there is an intense battle between Damian Wedage and Timo Heuver. Both riders are closely matched, but heading into the Markelo event it is Wedage who leads the standings with a three-point advantage over Heuver. Young Belgian talent Torre van Mechgelen holds third place, but is followed by Kay Zijlstra by just three points. One of the great things about the 125cc class is that there is no longer an age limit, allowing several riders who normally compete in the 250cc or 500cc classes to return to the 125cc category. Among them are multiple Dutch Champion and Grand Prix winner Erik Eggens, as well as Christopher Mills, Rico Staat, Jan Spliethof and Rob Windt.

The first two races of the 85cc class were won by German talent Luca Nierychlo. He currently holds an 18-point lead over Kash van Hamond and a 19-point advantage over Gregor Lootus. Kenzo Jaspers follows in fourth place ahead of Harry Dale, who won the Dutch Masters in Markelo last year.
The weather forecast looks very favorable, meaning fans can enjoy motocross at the highest level under excellent conditions this coming Sunday!
