The first day of the opening round of the MX Masters Estonia – Estonian Championships, which began in Põlva, offered plenty of excitement, close battles, and great entertainment for spectators.
MX Open and Superfinal: Plenty of Thrilling Duels In the day’s most important races, Jörgen-Matthias Talviku (Yamaha, Pärnu Motoclub) showed the strongest pace, managing to reach victory despite difficult starts. “Super training day!” he summed up the day briefly.
In the Superfinal, last year’s MX2 Estonian champion Markuss Kokins (GasGas, Latvia) took the lead from the start, with Erki Kahro (KTM, Team101 motoclub) close behind. Talviku started from fourth place but steadily moved forward and took the lead three laps before the finish.
“It was a good training day! It wasn’t easy to get past the Latvian… I had to push forward from behind. Technical track. Very good organization,” Talviku described.
He admitted he made things difficult for himself: “In the first start… I made my life hard. But I rode well and finished second.” The same pattern repeated in the following races, where he again had to work his way up from behind.
The track preparation, which was part of the Estonian Championships series for the first time, received high praise from the rider: “The best training you could ask for… enough overtaking opportunities… no one was really a clear head above the rest.”

There was plenty of action in the main races too. The first race was won by Kaarel Tilk (Husqvarna, Sõmerpalu MK), who crossed the finish line with a comfortable lead: “I’m very happy with the race… I could ride my own race calmly.” Talviku started from as far back as 12th but eventually climbed to second. Third went to Tanel Leok (Husqvarna, Sõmerpalu MK), who rode a borrowed bike and continued to show a strong level.
In the second race, Talviku took revenge, finishing ahead of Gert Krestinov (Honda, Motoextreme) and Markuss Kokins. Both races in the MX Open Local class, which ran alongside the main field, were won by Tristan Uiga (KTM, KTL Racing Club).
In the Superfinal, the fastest MX2 rider was Sebastian Leok, who finished sixth and held his own well among the riders from the higher class.
MX2 Class: Sebastian Leok Dominates In the MX2 class, Sebastian Leok (Husqvarna, Sõmerpalu MK) controlled the day, winning both qualifying and both races. “The start was actually pretty bad, the race was OK,” the young rider said briefly after the first race.
Second place went to Finnish rider Onni Jaakonsaari (KTM) and third to Richard Paat (KTM, KTL Racing Club).
Other Classes In the MX125 class, Lucas Leok (Husqvarna, Sõmerpalu MK) was the best, winning both races. Overall, second went to Aston Allas (Yamaha, RedMoto Racing) and third to Enri Lustus (Husqvarna, Sõmerpalu MK).
Both the 85cc and 65cc classes had 34 riders on the start line. In the larger class, victory went to Patriks Cirulis (Husqvarna, Latvia), with Robin Robert Mooses (Husqvarna, Mobile Autokeskus MX Academy) finishing second and Gregor Lootus (KTM, Motoextreme) third.
