Season-Best Fifth Overall for Karlis Reisulis at MXGP of Trentino

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 Team’s Karlis Reisulis has delivered his best performance of the season so far with a fine fifth overall at round five of the 2026 FIM MX2 Motocross World Championship. Racing at the hardpack, tight and twisty Pietramurata circuit in Italy, the Latvian posted two consistent fifth-place finishes to secure his strong result. Teammate and brother Janis Reisulis also impressed, securing an improving 12-6 result for ninth overall.

Having placed fifth in Race Two last weekend in Sardegna, K. Reisulis carried the same speed and form into round five of the campaign. Placing seventh in the Qualifying Race marked a strong start to the weekend, with the Yamaha YZ250FM rider eager to improve on that result in the Grand Prix races.

With rain falling as the start gate dropped for the opening race of the day, it added another layer of difficulty to the already bumpy and rutted Pietramurata circuit. Starting sixth, K. Reisulis moved into fifth within a handful of laps. By this stage, the top four had broken away, leaving him to maintain a comfortable margin over the riders behind and secure a solid fifth-place finish.

Track conditions were much more favourable for Race Two. Once again, K. Reisulis was soon into fifth and, in the closing stages, he caught Julius Mikula in fourth. Over the final laps of the race, the 20-year-old made several attempts to move past Mikula but couldn’t find a way through. Placing fifth underlined K. Reisulis’ consistency in recent Grands Prix to secure fifth on the day and ahead of round six, he lies eighth in the series standings.

  1. Reisulis also enjoyed a strong showing in Italy. Starting outside the top 10 in the rain-lashed opening race led to a 12th-place finish, while in Race Two, he battled with his brother for much of the moto on his way to finishing sixth. On the day, the reigning EMX250 Champion placed ninth overall, and the MX2 rookie remains sixth in the championship after five rounds.

Following a fruitful Grand Prix in Italy, the team will now enjoy a short break in the calendar before the series resumes on May 23-24 with the MXGP of France.

“Overall, it was a positive weekend. On Saturday I wasn’t feeling completely comfortable on the track. The bike felt good, but I just couldn’t quite link everything together and find my flow through the corners. On Sunday things improved. In the first moto I got a decent start, made some passes, and stayed focused throughout the race. In the second moto I didn’t have the best start, but I worked my way forward again and was pushing hard to fight for the podium. In the end, we just came up a little short, but there are plenty of positives to take away from here and I was only a small step away from being on the podium.”

“I have some mixed feelings about the day. The starts weren’t the best this weekend, although the second one was definitely an improvement. The track was more demanding than it looked from the outside, with sharp bumps that made it quite challenging throughout the races. Overall, though, I’m fairly happy with the day. There are still areas to improve, especially consistency, but we’ll keep working and take the positives into the next race.”
