RJ Hampshire of the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Team delivered a gritty performance at the Motocross of Nations, finishing seventh in the first MX Open/MX2 moto despite suffering from a rib injury.
Following the late withdrawal of Chase Sexton, Hampshire was called up as his replacement roughly a week and a half before the event. However, during one of his final training sessions prior to the Nations, he suffered a crash that left him with a painful rib injury. The damage made breathing difficult — a major obstacle for any rider at this level.
In his first moto, Hampshire battled fiercely with Jan Pancar for third position but was forced to settle for seventh after multiple small crashes. In the second race, the Husqvarna rider started in 13th place but was unable to finish after two further incidents.
