The official opening press conference of the 2025 MXGP of Finland took place today in a symbolic setting, right in front of Kouvola’s central city hall. Media representatives, dignitaries, and key stakeholders gathered to welcome the return of the FIM Motocross World Championship to Finland, as well as to introduce the brand-new venue of KymiRing, marking a new chapter for Finnish motocross.
The event was introduced by the Marketing Manager of Kouvola Charissa McCarron, before welcoming a prestigious panel featuring David Luongo, Infront Moto Racing CEO; FIM/CMS Director Antonio Alia Portela, KymiRing Managing Director Ory Kornel, Antti Pyrhönen, Kawasaki Racing Team Manager; and several of the world’s top riders including, red plate Romain Febvre from Kawasaki Racing Team Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Andrea Adamo, Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Kay de Wolf and Liam Everts, and local Finnish hopefuls Miro Varjonen and Nico Stenberg.
David Luongo expressed his enthusiasm for MXGP’s return to Finland: “It’s very important for us to be back in this beautiful country. Finland has a rich motocross history with legendary riders and iconic tracks. The KymiRing is a great mix of road racing infrastructure and a proper motocross layout. Despite the short preparation time, the organisers have done an excellent job, and I also want say a big thank to the FIM for their many years of supporting this Championship. I wish a fantastic weekend to all the riders.”
Antonio Alia Portela echoed the sentiment, highlighting the venue’s potential: “What a pleasure it is to come to the KymiRing. This is great to be back in Finland too. This place has everything and all the potential to become a permanent fixture in the MXGP calendar. The organizer has made a great effort and we’re excited about its future development.”
The significance of hosting the MXGP at KymiRing was underlined by Ory Kornel, who called it the venue’s “biggest milestone since its new beginning, to start our international motorsport journey with such a prestigious series is an honour. We’re excited for what this weekend will bring, and for the long-term opportunities.”
For Antti Pyrhönen, it was a special homecoming: “It’s a proud moment for me and for our team to compete here in Finland, especially with the red plate. We’re grateful to Infront Moto Racing and FIM for making it happen. Leading the championship and being back in Finland is a great moment. I also want to wish all the Finnish riders the best for this weekend”
As for the riders, they were enthusiastic after their first taste of the new circuit:
Romain Febvre: “It’s good to be back in Finland. The track is wide and natural, with a nice flow, looking very natural. I’m looking forward to some great battles this weekend.”
Andrea Adamo, winner of the last MXGP in Finland in 2023, shared: “The track is different, with elevation and wide corners. It’s fast and fun, definitely a good setting for racing. Hopefully I can reiterate my results from 2023”
Kay de Wolf praised the facilities and atmosphere: “It’s great to have a proper paddock with asphalt and good infrastructure. I’m excited to race here and hope for dry conditions!”
Liam Everts was also eager to return to Finland: “It’s always a pleasure to come here. The sand-based track looks solid and should shape up well for some good racing.”
After the press conference, the riders happily joined a brief meet and greet, connecting with the Finnish fans on-site, signing autographs and posing for photos in a great atmosphere.
With a new venue, and strong local engagement, the MXGP of Finland is set to deliver an exciting weekend of world-class motocross action, with strong local support and the world’s best riders on site, KymiRing is in for a full racing weekend. Whether it is in MXGP, MX2, EMX250 or EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing, the series are all kicking into full gear and the fight for the titles is intensifying.
