Motocross of Nations returns to TT Circuit Assen in The Netherlands

The Motocross of Nations – where more than 40 countries compete with their top motocross riders for the prestigious Nations title – will return to the Netherlands in 2027. The highly regarded event will once again take place at the TT Circuit Assen on the 9th and 10th of October 2027. This news was announced by the Infront Moto Racing Group, the organizer and rightsholder of the FIM MXGP World Championship.

Back to Assen

After the successful edition in 2019, the most important motocross race in the world will once again come to the province of Drenthe. The TT Circuit Assen was already the host of the MXGP of the Netherlands from 2016 to 2019, as well as of the Motocross of Nations in 2019. With the announcement of the 2027 edition, Assen underscores its unique position as a venue for speed sports, hosting both the MotoGP & WorldSBK road racing world championships and the motocross world championship on the same grounds.

David Luongo, CEO of Infront Moto Racing:

“We are proud to bring the Monster Energy Motocross of Nations back to Assen in 2027. The previous edition at this legendary venue left a lasting impression on fans and teams alike, and The Netherlands has always played a key role in the history of our sport. Hosting the 80th edition of this iconic event at such an iconic circuit is the perfect combination. Together with the FIM, the K.N.M.V. and the local organizers, we are fully committed to delivering another world-class celebration of motocross that will honour both the legacy and the future of the MXoN.”

A Global Showdown

The Motocross of Nations, also known as the “Olympics of motocross,” is a unique showdown between newly crowned world champions and the international elite of the sport. In recent years, around 40 countries have participated annually, each with three selected top riders. The event attracts tens of thousands of fans from around the world each year and is considered the most important motocross event of the year.

The Netherlands on the Podium

The Dutch MXoN riders stood on the podium 15 times in the event’s 80-year history and secured its historic first title in 2019 in front of a home crowd in Assen. It was Calvin Vlaanderen, Glenn Coldenhoff, and multiple world champion Jeffrey Herlings who dominated the MXoN in The Netherlands to achieve the first-ever Dutch Nations victory. Since the inception of the Motocross World Championship in 1947, Dutch riders have amassed the highest number of championship points through to 2024—firmly securing the Netherlands’ place at the top of the all-time rankings. With a remarkable total of 6,915 points, the Netherlands stands well ahead of its closest rivals: France in second place with 5,082 points, and the United States in third with 3,666 points. When it comes to total points scored, the Netherlands is, without a doubt, the greatest motocross nation in the world.

Wim Mulder, Director of KNMV:

“That the Motocross of Nations – the most prestigious motocross event of the year – will be held again in the Netherlands in 2027 is something that brings us great satisfaction at KNMV. We proudly look forward to following the performances of the Dutch athletes at this major motocross event of the year. With the excellent infrastructure of the TT Circuit and the experience of organizer Motorclub Assen in collaboration with LDP, we look forward to the event with great confidence.”

Widespread Support

The event will once again be organized by the MXoN Assen Foundation, in cooperation with the Motorclub Assen, LDP International, and the Royal Dutch Motorcycle Association (KNMV). The 2027 Motocross of Nations is listed on the professional sports calendar of NOC*NSF, making it eligible for national support. The Province of Drenthe and the Municipality of Assen also offer support, once again putting Assen and Drenthe on the map as a city and province of sport.
