Rick Elzinga of the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team has secured the Dutch Masters of Motocross title in Markelo. With a 1-2 in the heats, Elzinga took the day’s victory, which was enough to win the title.
The track of Markelo was muddy during training. Treacherous ruts appeared on the track, but Elzinga felt well at home in these conditions and managed to set the fastest time. Thibault Benistant was also fast in Markelo and posted the sixth fastest time in practice.
In the first moto it was Elzinga who managed to get a very good start and took the lead in the beginning of the race. He set a high pace and despite several attacks from the second rider, Elzinga kept his cool and won the heat. Benistant did not get off to a good start and soon had a problem with his goggles, which reduced his visibility. Despite this, he came back well throughout the race and managed to finish third, keeping his chances of overall victory open.
In the second moto Benistant immediately managed to take the lead in the race. He was in control for the whole moto and won the race. Elzinga was right behind him and this was enough for the title.
With a 1-2 in the heats, Rick won the day’s classification in Markelo and secured his second 250 title in the Dutch Masters of Motocross. Benistant finished second in the overall standings with a 3-1 score in the heats and despite not taking part in the first race, he still finished third in the final standings.
