Brian Bogers did not even compete in the main races at the Grand Prix of Italy, his second event of the season, but why was that? It turns out that he damaged his knee on Saturday and it was too painful to ride with on Sunday. The pain has even prompted him to return to The Netherlands to have an MRI to assess the damage.
"We decided together with the team to give it a try this morning in warm up, but the pain was too strong to ride because the knee hurts when I bend it," Bogers said in a team statement. "Obviously it was disappointing to miss the races but given the type of year it's been for me, it's better to avoid any risk. Hopefully it's not a serious issue, so that I can be back on the bike very soon and start with winter testing. I'm really looking forward to be back racing next year and having a good season with the team."
After struggling with a foot injury that was sustained in November last year and sidelined him for ten months, another significant injury would be a crushing blow. Any updates on the premier-class rookie will be posted on this page in due course. The MRI is scheduled for Tuesday.
