The Teams: MXoN List

Motocross of Nations teams for RedBud

· 4 min read

The Motocross of Nations is really not far away at all now, as the world's best will tackle the American circuit of RedBud in less than two months. Teams are always named through the month of August and, unsurprisingly, that has indeed been the case over the last sixteen days. All of the confirmed teams are listed below. Whenever another nation selects their riders, they will be added to this. Save the link to keep in touch with Motocross of Nations news.

France

Gautier Paulin

MXGP

Dylan Ferrandis

MX2

Romain Febvre

Open

Note: In an extremely controversial move, Marvin Musquin was left off of the French squad for the Motocross of Nations. Musquin has released a statement that explains how he feels about the decision.

The Netherlands

Jeffrey Herlings

TBC

Calvin Vlaanderen

MX2

Glenn Coldenhoff

TBC

Note: The Netherlands will welcome Calvin Vlaanderen to the team this year and that decision alone will make them very strong. There is no doubt that they will contend for the win.

USA

Eli Tomac

MXGP

Aaron Plessinger

MX2

Justin Barcia

Open

Note: Team USA will send an extremely strong team to the Motocross of Nations and undoubtedly enter RedBud as the favourites to claim the title. The United States last won in 2011.

Belgium

Clement Desalle

MXGP

Jago Geerts

MX2

Jeremy Van Horebeek

Open

Note: There are no surprises here. Julien Lieber and Kevin Strijbos will wait on the sidelines in case someone gets injured, which always seems to happen to Team Belgium. Clement Desalle has not raced the Motocross of Nations since 2013.

Switzerland

Valentin Guillod

MXGP

Jeremy Seewer

MX2

Arnaud Tonus

Open

Note: The way that Switzerland announced their team was a little confusing, as they named four riders. It sounds like Killian Auberson is ready to step in if Arnaud Tonus is not ready to race.

Australia

Kirk Gibbs

MXGP

Hunter Lawrence

MX2

Mitchell Evans

Open

Note: Kirk Gibbs and Hunter Lawrence were extremely impressive at Matterley Basin, so it is hardly surprising that they have been selected to represent Australia again. Chad Reed wanted the third spot on the team, but obviously missed out.

Puerto Rico

Travis Pastrana

MXGP

Ryan Sipes

MX2

Ronnie Mac

Open

Note: This is serious. Puerto Rico are sending this team to the Motocross of Nations in an effort to raise money for the nation, seeing as they are struggling after a hurricane last year. What do you think about their decision?

Germany

Ken Roczen

MXGP

Henry Jacobi

MX2

Max Nagl

Open

Note: Fans have desperately waited for Ken Roczen to return to the Motocross of Nations, so most were extremely pleased when Germany announced their team. The Germans have had a rough ride the last two years.

South Africa

Michael Docherty

MXGP

Bradley Lionett

MX2

Caleb Tennant

Open

Note: Team South Africa could have been so much stronger, had they not fallen out with Calvin Vlaanderen. Vlaanderen was less than pleased when the South African federation claimed that he did not have permission to use the flag.

Ireland

Graeme Irwin

MXGP

Martin Barr

MX2

Stuart Edmonds

Open

Note: Ireland return with their trusty three riders. Stuart Edmonds is out with an arm injury currently, so it remains to be seen if they will need to draft in either Jason Meara or Richard Bird as a reserve.

New Zealand

Cody Cooper

MXGP

Dylan Walsh

MX2

Rhys Carter

Open

Note: Dylan Walsh and Rhys Carter will replace Josiah Natzke and Hamish Harwood, who were on the team a year ago. New Zealand did not qualify at Matterley Basin.

Canada

Colton Facciotti

MXGP

Jess Pettis

MX2

Kaven Benoit

Open

Note: Canada have quietly been fielding some strong teams and this one, which consists of three recognisable names, is no different. Team Canada are undoubtedly contenders for a top-ten finish.

Brazil

Gustavo Pessoa

MXGP

Enzo Lopes

MX2

Fabio Santos

Open

Note: Brazil failed to qualify at the event last year, so will draft in two new riders this year. Fabio Santos is the only one who was on the team at Matterley Basin.

Venezuela

Lorenzo Locurcio

MXGP

Anthony Rodriguez

MX2

Carlos Badiali

Open

Note: There is almost no doubt that Lorenzo Locurcio and Anthony Rodriguez will be able to carry Team Venezuela into the main races.

Czechia

Vaclav Kovar

MXGP

Martin Krc

MX2

Martin Michek

Open

Denmark

N/A

MXGP

N/A

MX2

N/A

Open

Note: There will be no Danish team at the Motocross of Nations this year, Thomas Kjer Olsen has confirmed, due to the amount of resources that are required to make the trip across the pond.
