Contract Dispute: Michele Cervellin

Cervellin delays Yamaha debut

Michele Cervellin, who previously rode for Martin Racing Technology, has been forced to give up his lead in the Italian Championship. Cervellin was set to make his debut with the SM Action Yamaha squad at the third round of the series, which was held at Castiglione this past weekend. There were issues with his contract, however, which meant that he could not take to the starting line.

SM Action released a press release on the day of the event, which revealed that Cervellin had not received clearance from Honda Europe in time to take to the starting line in his new colours. The squad stated that this was despite the fact that both parties had signed their respective contracts and issued official releases. Although this issue forced Cervellin to give up the series lead to his new teammate, Simone Furlotti, he is expected to take to the starting line at Matterley Basin this weekend.

Michele Cervellin has still not confirmed why he felt the need to move away from Martin Racing, a squad that he spent ten years with, although he did state that the reasons involved his future. Cervellin had a career-best finish of third in the second moto at the Grand Prix of Russia and currently runs tenth in the series standings.
